On the UK, I think it may well be heading to a new GE with the hope ( of both parties) that it will give the new government a mandate to not trigger Article 50. It would concern me that UKIP may gain more seats if a GE is brought too soon though. LibDems were reporting a massive surge in membership, off the back of Farron & Clegg stating they'd fight to keep us in the EU, but how that would translate to votes in a GE I don't know. Labour don't have a hope (IMO) because of this kerfuffle, unless someone totally amazing takes over and appoints yet another new cabinet.... Conservatives, well, it massively depends on who takes over as PM now.

Things are definitely too uncertain to go into negotiations with the EU right now, and I'm in no doubt that Farage should be kept as far away from the negotiating table as possible.

I think best option would be to get May in as PM and get those white papers and select committees working out what we actually want to negotiate for.

I know sweet fanny adams about politics though, so it is just my random thoughts.

The general election (if & when it happens) is going to be a complete farce in my view. Depending on who will be leading the Tories and Labour at the time, a lot of the electorate will be voting for reasons other than who they want in Government.

On the Labour side they'll be protest votes going to the Tories voting against Corbyn if he's standing and visa versa if he's not and protest votes by would-be Tory voters voting for Labour as an anti Brexit vote, depending on who the Tories put forward.

God knows what will happen to those who would have voted UKIP as, being a single issue party (ie leave EU) it could be seen that they no longer have a purpose.

The big question is do we want a GE more weeks of all this crap from politicians from all sides giving us the answers they think will win them their seats and the lies and false promises time for the bunch we have in parliament to get it together and support the Country stop the in fighting which is going on now and work for a common cause THE UK if its not now to stop the rot which MAY happen its never

Is it me or is Nicola Sturgeon getting a bit above her station? Yesterday she was saying she wants to leave the UK.

A bit more on the news we mentioned earlier that the Scottish National Party will today ask to be declared the official Oppositon at Westminster.

They say their leader Angus Robertson enjoys more support than Jeremy Corbyn.

There are 56 SNP MPs - but only 40 Labour MPs have expressed support for Mr Corbyn.

They also say they are able to fill all the relevant shadow posts to the government, unlike Mr Corbyn.

They point to Parliamentary rules which say the official Opposition must be "prepared to assume power."

A source said: "We have looked at Erskine May (the Parliamentary rule book) and will put it to the Speaker that the Labour Party no longer meet obligations to remain as the official Opposition."

Not sure how SNP think they're prepared to assume power when they're yet to decide whether to remain in the UK.

It would be good for all of us, at the mo, she is the only leader with a public mandate, she is obviously capable of looking from both a nationalist and union sense.

Her as temp pm, Milliband number 2. Hunt and Khan as business and finance. Stella Cressy and Eilidh Whiteford as dressing, Dream team..

A very reasonable idea, may even help in stopping electoral fraud in some sections of the country!

I don't agree with compulsory voting. Mainly for freedom and choice. But spoilt papers would go up and some people would vote without thought or consideration because they have to, not because they have any opinion at all on which party should represent them. Fines and imprisonment for failing to vote is a batty idea in this country - look how nuts people go over self assessment tax return late penalties, and parking fines.... and taking your kids out of school fines....

If you don't want to vote, have no opinion or just don't care then your voice is not represented in the HoP. That is your choice. No one elses.

Also a note to whoever takes on education ministers job, basic politics and finance should be number 2 on school curriculum after the 3 rs lol

absolutely agree. I am quite disgusted that my children's school barred any discussion of the EU referendum and haven't discussed anything about it since.

it SHOULD be taught in school (I know Austria does already ... age appropriate of course) ... so many of our younger generation (and older ones too) have no idea what goes on in politics

I absolutely agree that voting should be compulsory -seems to work in a lot of countries. You may remember me bleating on about people not voting before. From the levellers to women’s suffrage people have suffered and died for this right (and please, ffs, don’t go off on a historic tangent)
We do not need a degree in politics or economics to know it effects us all just as the law does and the basics should be covered in schools.

On this dream team government BTW, can we cross the floor and go back a few years? I don’t mean Pitt the elder or anything but post war?

Just listend to one of the tory contenders, seems an ok guy. problem is, this part.

We have to stop labeling ourselves exitors or remainers , and get on with it. Problem is, the public dont listen to the electorate, and are going to eat up the statements in the press.
