I would like some information, How do we go about keeping the Mother In Laws house, now her Husband has died, We want to move in with her and do the place up. We have been told However. that if she needs to go into a home (she has Dementia) anytime in the next 7 years, They will take her house off her to pay for her care. Any Advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Hi All
If she has dementia, does any person currently have power of attorney (ie dealing with her affairs as she legally may not be able to)? If someone has power of attorney they can represent the mother's interests. You/ your wife could then keep the mother's home and employ a live in carer (where feasible), and live it with her.Originally posted by Janski View PostI would like some information, How do we go about keeping the Mother In Laws house, now her Husband has died, We want to move in with her and do the place up. My question is, is she of capacity to make a decision without being influenced, how serious is her dementia?

Re: Hi All
We have looked into power of attorney, all that says is we have power over her finances, It does not say we have power over the house. So when we get power of attorney, they cant take it of us? We do not need carer`s we will do that, until we can not anymore, She is in the early stages of Dementia, there but not sometimes,
