Possible Scam?
I sold our car to an online company. They came and inspected the car we agreed a price and that took the car together with the Registration document. They said the money would be paid into our bank account in 3/4 days. Nothing has been forthcoming yet. What can I do is this a common practice?Tags: None

any luck? they took my car last week and the same story!Originally posted by Jlebz29 View PostYesterday I let my car go with these guys now trading as ‘we buy any motor car Ltd ’ the car was a non runner and was sold as such,I thought payment would be instant but I was told 4 days after the car was loaded. I called him today relay my concerns and the guy reassured me that this was just the process and they would definitely give me the agreed amount next week within the ‘4 working days’ as per the contract.
When the guy initially rang about the car he said he was from ‘we buy any car’ that’s who I thought I was dealing with. It wasn’t until the car was loaded he gave me the contract which just all seemed really dodgy. I then clicked that they weren’t the company I thought I was dealing with and then I panicked, the driver offered for me to keep the cars paperwork and when I’d received the funds I could send it all to them, talked to me about how he’s been working for the company for 10 years etc was really reassuring.
The car was already loaded up and ready to go by this point, I’d literally pushed the car to the truck myself. I just felt obliged to follow through on our ‘deal’.
Now after researching the actual company and the real director I’m completely devastated. All the red flags were there I just didn’t know how to react. Always considered myself not to be like one of those women who gets caught out like this. I feel really silly for thinking that.
The car is still insured and it’s still in my name as I didn’t give the V5. I had to retain my numberplate so that’s coming sometime next week.
Do I wait to see if he pays first like he said he would or do I take action now?
Advice very much appreciated!

ackfla we have also been victim to this company, they are saying they will bring car back (they have said many untrue things so not betting on it) noticed you said you got car back? How was that process did they hand over all the paperwork keys etc without any trouble?

Dear Action Fraud team,
My name is Tereza Benakova and I would like to report a suspected case of fraud involving the sale of my vehicle, registration number BA16BWZ.
On 14 May 2025, I handed over my car, including all documents (V5C, keys, service book etc.), to a company named "We Buy Any Motor Car Ltd" (Company Registration No: 16210320), based in Coventry. They promised to send the agreed payment by Monday, 19 May 2025.
As of today, I have not received any payment or confirmation, and I have serious concerns after discovering multiple online reviews suggesting this company may be operating fraudulently.
The car was previously under a finance agreement, but I personally settled that finance on 14 May 2025 before handing the vehicle over. The company was not informed about the finance being paid off.
Out of concern, I contacted the DVLA and requested a new logbook (V5C) to prevent any unauthorized transfer of ownership without my consent.
I would appreciate your advice on whether I should wait until the agreed payment deadline (Monday, 19 May, 6 PM), or whether I should take action immediately.
Thank you for your

Thanks for reminding. Citizens Advice consumer helpline have advised to put a blocker on this.Originally posted by PallasAthena View Post
They won't be using it for long as according to that Companies House entry the sole director of the company applied last week for it to be dissolved (voluntary strike-off).
