People celebrate Guy Fawkes yes, but he could have killed so many people if his bomb had gone off, also he tried to kill a King.

We celebrate Christ rising from the dead and remember his death, and yes it is the most attended ceremony in Church.

I agree with these comments, but.. why throw stuff at a coffin?
The only things you are going to hurt are the poor horses.. and no matter if it was in the cemetary, church or the local dog track,, throwing something at a hearse is WRONG!!

I'm just saddened that people could not show a little respect, even if it was a grudging respect for the family.

It's not the person that died that's upsetting me, its the reaction to it.

guy fawkes died over 200 years ago, and was a traitor to the Crown.

As he had never sworn loyalty to James I of England, nor was apparently an English citizen or subject, he could hardly have been a traitor. That didn't stop the authorities of the day subjecting him to such severe torture that he had to be propped up in court to be sentenced as he was no longer able to stand.

Thatcher was the leader of the country, unless I miss something never commited treason and it is the she was buried.

She is to be cremated and then interred next to Dennis.

I hope you do not mind my take on death but I will give it. Once you are dead the person that was within that body is no longer there. call it a soul call it that essence or whateva. A funeral merely worships a vessel of life that is over. For me the burning of an effigy is merely that, the burning of the hatred of that ideology. Maggie Thatcher's body was cremated. It was a vessel that was burned and quite frankly that was it. What a person means to each individual is never burned, buried or lost.

Bit deep for me L, I suppose it is routed in our psychology, to provide a decent burial no matter what, perhaps we believe that the favour will be returned one day no matter how despicably we behave.

People having **** ups in the street to celebrate? thats just sick.. and these people are my neighbours!! VERY VERY sad atm, not cos maggie's dead. but at the state of humanity atm.

The horses were not in the church or the crematorium either.
People celebrate the death of Guy Fawkes every year, so what....
We celebrate the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday each year(well known for being the most attended church service in the entire year)....

even if it was *thinks of someone she cannot stand* justin beiber for crimes against music, it goes against my principles to have a street party on the day of someones funeral... and before you ask, yes I would say the same about Hindley.

Monster or not, she had the right to a decent funeral, so did Maggie.

She had a decent funeral. Did I miss the news story where someone disrupted the church service? The crematorium service? Do you think that she did not have a decent funeral? Well, for 10 million(we paid half) maybe we should be asking for a refund

Yes i have always thought it a bit sick, but it was a long time ago,( disembowelment, hang drawn and quartered tradition and all that). Doesn't excuse what we o today though not by a loong chalk

for some people she did commit treason but she was cremated and the ashes are to be buried
Personally I neither liked or disliked her, I was taught to sing Maggie Thatcher the Milk Snatcher and things like that, but I find it very distasteful to be burning her effigy when (for example) Myra Hindley's death was for the most part ignored.

Personally speaking, I have to say that i admired her in my childhood but learnt when my brain connected and I thought about things that her final years were the ones that really was bad. She had achievements no doubt about it but the last week or so I have watched a couple of clips from her era and the arguments then are very similar to today, ie helping the rich and taking from the poor, etc etc. Her argument was: typical of Labour wanting to spend money that we cannot afford. The arguments are almost identical. Puff, Myra Hindley was one of two people connected with the murders of kids on the Moors. I suspect that Brady's death might draw more comment. Furthermore, there was not much facebook and twitter and tinterweb when she passed away but there is today so more likely to draw a strong reaction today....

Would this be the same Goldthorpe that the residents say they lost all their jobs and are struggling to survive, because if it is I saw no evidence of that when they were all dancing in the streets with pints in their hands.
