I wonder - andrenalin or DMT?

There is certainly no doubt that the hallucinations are very real to the person experiencing them.

I have to reiterate what Di said Peter - I'd no idea you'd been through all that, I'm very sorry, but glad you've pulled through and are contributing so purposefully in many areas to help others. :tinysmile_grin_t:

This has bothered me over the years, in trying to reconcile my earlier Christian learning with my newer - less 'romantic' beliefs. I eventually managed, with very little research but a bit of mental wrestling, to come up with "The Meaning of THIS Life - according to Bill."

In answer to Peter's doubt - I agree. It's hard to envisage someone who has been severely autistic, or suffered latter-years dementia, carrying on as that person in the 'hereafter.' My view is that the ONLY thing we are here to acquire is the experience of what it is like to live in a place like this - where good and evil are engaged in constant battle. OK., going off-topic, I guess - but as this is the Lamp-post, I hope it can be forgiven.

Off at another tangent - but still connected. 21st December, 2012 marks the end of the Mayan calendar. Is this the end of time - or do we just dance in the fountains of Trafalgar Square at midnight, and cheer as a new Mayan calendar begins with day 1.0000.0000.0001 ?

Those books reveal facts that one would never come across without taking a serious interest in these sort of matters. The pineal gland in the brain - it's not there for nothing, but almost nothing is known about it. It appears to account for much of the understanding, or lack of understanding, of these phenomena in people though.
Going off on one again, I believe the brain is THE link to our 'REAL' selves (our souls, if that makes better sense). As such, I consider it to be like a piece of alien technology - and just as incomprehensible.

LOL - thank you Di - you're all very kind, considering I DO go off on one when I've had a bit of a drink, I must admit !!!

Indeed, Di - animals and children seem to be sensitive to this stuff more so than the rest of us critters. My own theory is that their minds/brains are uncluttered with all the intellectual stuff we acquire as we go through life.

I've chatted with Peter off-forum recently, and known of some of his physical hardships, but was unaware of that particular episode. Good of you to share it Peter, thank you. I believe the near-death experience of the 'tunnel of light' (like the one which beckoned Patrick Swayze in "Ghost" - and to which he eventually was drawn) is believed by many to me nothing more than the multiple firing of brain-cells in a kind of 'death-throe.' Makes sense to me, too.

Yeah - the proof lies on the opposite bank of the Styx, it seems. All we can do is form our own judgement based on what we consider to be the balance of probablility - hence the different beliefs we all have sometimes.
