The very minimum you do is set up a non-public copy/test site and test the upgrade. See what problems it throws up.

You can never catch everything, but looks like OTR just went into it blind?

    Crazy.....

              and the next one says:

OMFG, who the hell said v.4 was a good idea. This is not my fault, you morons!

Hi Slick - as PF says what exactly have I done to warrant my posting privileges on Cag being removed please?

I have emailed admin, but am still awaiting an explanation a week on................

                    Many thanks,

LOL - If the webmaster is the same spineless idiot who thought that the 'Miserable User' hex was a grand idea for an allegedly altruistic self-help forum, then I guess this upgrade is yet another of his grand ideas. Looks like another fine mess he got you into, Mr G...

Take my advice - don't trust charlatans. Or was that CAG's advice ? Never mind - at least you and webby are on the same wavelength. It's such a shame that the "Carpathia" isn't. Take a deep breath as the waters embrace you.

....I'd give this cubicle 5 minutes if I were you, guys - somebody has been very ill in here !!! :beagle:

How right you are Poppet. He has now posted something that says exactly that - blaming it on the Americans and how ''un-savvy'' they are with their ''we-know-what-is-best-for-you attitude which can really put a damper on things''.

He just doesn't do irony does he?

''I think that the move to v.4.06 is a very sensible idea. We'll discuss this with the WebMaster.

Some of the problems are definitely problems with our upgrade - and are fixable. Others are merely new features of the new version of the vB software and will take a little more work, I expect.

I have to say that vB seemto have changed some things just to produce a visible difference, even though thechange is not better.

The clutter which MB referred to in thread 1 is an example. The screenshot which MB has reproduced above is another example.

We'll try to address these but we'll have to try and get our installation fully working first and then we can try improving on what vB have written for us.

Certainly, the vB search function - which was never very good, is now really much more limited than ever. I can't imagine why reducing functionality - and effectively reducing choice - could ever be seen as good thing.

I think that it comes with the American village mentality. I like Americans a lot, but I used always to be amazed at how un-International and how un-savvy, Americans are. But it really is true. There is a sort of we-know-what-is-best-for-you attitude which can really put a damper on things. You have to remember that they were helped to their Independence by the Fwench and I think that explains a lot''

                                Nope.

More a case of making sure their dodgy "adverts" got displayed OK, instead of ensuring that it actually worked properly for users.
