Another story of the rights of a 'wronged' party being put before the rights of anyone else.

That's terrible for the family involved, but they weren't foster carers. They were from this scheme http://www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/li...t_service.aspx that has totally different criteria and is for vulnerable adults not children in care.

I didn't say the family were foster carers and I don't care what their criteria is or was.

I said that this adult's rights were put before those of those children because his rights had to be defended at all costs.

Now, of course, there are two damaged and vulnerable children to deal with also.

I didn't say you said they were foster carers, I was just pointing out that they weren't as headlined in the DM. And it's not a social work placement.
On this type of housing scheme the family would have known that they would get no details of the adult's history before they moved in with them. They chose to host knowing it was going to be a vulnerable adult - which covers a huge range of situations, including drugs alcohol and mental health. His rights weren't defended abnormally - they knew whoevr they chose to have as a paying guest in their family home would have a history of some sort but they would not be told what it was. Their children have now suffered devasting consequences through their parents choice.

Well let's blame the parents then, shall we?

If things like this continue to happen, it won't be any surprise when people stop helping, will it? And there will be a return to the dark days, all the "vulnerable adults" will end up in institutions, locked away forevermore. Whereas with a bit of common sense, that could all have been avoided.

If we ae going ot apportion blame - who other than the parents is to blame?

Nothing to do with what the 18 year old did to them then because, of course, he can't help it can he.

Yes I was being sarcastic when I made that comment, "Let's blame the parents then shall we", unfortunately sarcasm doesn't come over very well in typing, does it. I just knew I shouldn't have posted, can't possibly have an opinion that isn't pc can I. Perhaps the PC brigade who placed him with that family should have thought about it a bit more carefully first, if they didn't want to breach his human rights or whatever, then the answer is clear (to me anyway) - he should not have been placed in a family where there was "temptation" for want of a better word. Just goes to prove my point that if this type of thing continues to happen, people who genuinely want to help those less fortunate than themselves will have second thoughts and not bother, if there is a chance that their family etc will be exposed to danger/risk etc.

End of the day the parents chose to be a host family and accept the payment of around £180 per week, knowing that the person they got in their home with their children could have any sort of mental health, drug/alcohol issues, would be placed with the emphasis on housing not social care, and knowing that they would not get any history on this person.

Would you rent a room on this basis if you had children in the house - cos I certainly wouldn't.

The authorities did not know this individual's history as it would appear that there is no official requirement for the 'placee' to be checked - unlike the couple that took him in, who had to be CRB checked.

Not every person with problems is a full on head case, some of them just need a place to stay, as advised by social services or the equivalent.

It would be a very sad place, as Wendy has already said, if everyone thought ill, all the time of these people and discriminated against them..... just in case.

It wouldn't really have made any difference if he had been CRB'd as he hadn't had convictions for sexual offences beforehand (according to the press) - just several allegations.

Yes it would be a sadder place but at the end of the day they were being paid well above market rate for a lodger to take the person in. They were not exactly offering a charity service.
Their first responsibility should have been to their children - you can't go with the opinion that social workers interfere far too much in family life and then complain when they don't.

My point was that they had to be checked whilst he didn't.

Do people normally get lodgers CRB checked.
