      Yes, have experienced similar;
BT, phoning 2 days before the bill is received.

Not sure if it applies, but it bugs me something chronic when you go out for a meal and get a service charge added on automatically, especially when they make out it's mandatory.

            Thanks all, keep em coming

            Additional charges
Consumers are sometimes required to pay additional amounts of money (‘additional charges’), over and above the headline prices they expect. For example, they may pay more in order to pay bills by cash or cheque, rather than by direct debit (through a ‘non-direct debit’ charge). Other examples include: paying an early termination charge to terminate a contract early, or paying extra to receive a fully itemised bill.

At the moment these are classified as core or non core terms but they are all ancillary/contingent charges. If the EU directive negotiations go our way they will ALL be assessable for fairness under the CRD, not just those which are non core.

SOme telecoms charges which have been designated as core or noncore by OFCOM below; currently only 50% of these are assessable for fairness.

            A. Non-direct debit (“non-DD”) charges (i.e. charges imposed by suppliers on
customers who do not pay their bills by direct debit or a similar method)

            B. Default charges (i.e. late payment charges, charges for payment failure and
            charges for reconnection)

            C. Initial Minimum Contract Periods (“MCPs”) and Early Termination Charges
            (“ETCs”)

            D. Subsequent Minimum Contract Period (“subsequent MCPs”)

            E. Minimum notice periods (“MiNPs”)

            F. Itemised or paper billing charges

            G. Cease charges

Anyone particularly interested in telecoms charges should have a look at OFCOM summary http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/bin...addcharges.pdf

              Non-direct debit charges:
these are capable of being "core terms", but only where they are presented in such a way that the typical consumer would regard them as part of the price paid for the service as opposed to an additional charge; where they are non core terms, they should be limited to causally related costs, i.e. the cost of dealing with the payment, not other costs (e.g. bad debts.

Itemised/paper billing: these may be "core terms", but only where a number of conditions are met; it may be fair for a supplier to include reasonable charges directly attributable to the level of billing provided, and charges should not usually be more than £1.50 per bill.
Late payment/failed payment/reconnection: these are "non-core" terms, and charges should reflect only direct costs, e.g. the identifiable extra cost of collecting the money.

              Minimum contract periods:
initial contract periods are likely to be "core terms", and must be prominent and transparent (if not they will be non core terms and subject to the fairness test), while subsequent minimum periods are likely to be non core terms and must meet several conditions in order to be fair.

Early termination charges: these are "non-core" terms and must meet various conditions in order to be fair, e.g. they should never exceed the payments left under the contract and should reflect any savings by the supplier (including reduced costs, ability to resell to a new customer and accelerated receipt of payment) or they should reflect no more than a supplier's unrecouped expenditure on the terminated contract.

If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

Enter, the CPUTR's and the following may prove to be of interest:

Also, if the service has been dire, then one can with hold the mandatory tip!

Same here Leclerc...I've just had notification of that also!

I'm already paying £17 a month for their Platinum package and now they want to add on a further £5 for using a low overdraft facility which was supposed to have been a "perk" of the package in the first place!!

Also, I have recently made my first ever holiday travel insurance claim, cover provided under the same package, and am still waiting for payment from Axa, some 6 weeks later!!

Will be using this as an incentive to drive down my overdraft and shift my account to the Co-Op before December beckons.

Other charges that annoy me are when you are offered a cup of tea at the hairdressers or bread in a restaurant only to find that you have been charged extra for these when your bill arrives!!

Surcharges on holiday flights from Scotland. Funnily enough these only get put on during school holidays.

Just been thinking on this, re bank charges.

The fact they count weekends when calculating charges and yet you can do NOTHING about them until the following Monday morning !!!

Paying out to stay at the hotel with 15 days parking, the night before flying, and they charge you £4 each way for a bus to the airport.

Paying to cross the Thames at Dartford ffs.

Prescription charges when in other parts of Britain its free (allegedly).
