Have you actually received a court claim from RLP or have they just sent you one of their 'speculative invoices'?
I am sure you will get lots of advice from the knowledgeable Beagles  but the general consensus is to ignore all RLP contact/letters unless they actually do start the court process

Re: Rlp, debenhams, police fine
I was suffering depression by going in to the store I have made matters worse for my self .. I have no one to talk to,, I'm crying all the time I have made my depression worse.. All my jobs I am CRB checked I am so scared this will show up on my check. I feel ashamed to go to town as this was my every day shop and every one in the store knew of me.. ( I don't understand why I did this) I feel ashamed when I'm with friends I feel worth less ... The police that came to the store was a friend of my friend that's so embarasing ... I called the police officer apologised to her , for what I done,, called the store no one picked up ,, (so I can say sorry ,,)

Hi, don't get stressed by this speculative rubbish RLP can't fine you.
What did the police officer actually say and do?
Did Debenhams actually suffer any provable loss? Was the item (s) returned to the store in a saleable condition?

Re: Rlp, debenhams, police fine
Hi Nem
thank you for replying back.. police (1st read out their script if I say any thing it can be used against me in court) then took me to the station, put me in the cell, after half an hour took me out to go to the central station but then decided to give me a ticket which was a fine of £90 which I paid on line when I got home .
On the day I went in to town to do my shopping , I could see the security guy from behind the counter watching me . I took the price of one item and placed it on the other item, I made it £40 cheaper went to the till paid £20 for it walked out, security walked up to me and said I'm security follow me . We went to the back of the store they took the item from me called the police..
I have been suffering depression for the last year plus anxiety. I am on medication ,, I know this is no excuse .. After doing this I feel more low and ashamed. I don't want to be spotted by any one from the store in case they talk and tell our little community about me .. This is worrying me I was confident out going now I'm low again

Was whatever you were accused of changing the price on returned to the store undamaged? Saleable?
How long did it take to conclude this matter 15minutes more/less how many store staff were involved?

Re: Rlp, debenhams, police fine
So you received a fixed penalty notice for shoplifting from the police, which you have paid.
That is the end of the matter.
Debenhams got their goods back in a saleable condition and have lost nothing.
Their security guards were doing the job they are paid to do, whether or not they detect breaches of security their costs are not increased.
Forget about and ignore RLP and their series of threatening letters.
As you have paid the FPN you will not have a criminal conviction, but it MAY show on a CBR (now DBS) check.
Don't know what field of work you are in, but it is a very minor offence, and possibly will not affecr you at all.

Re: Rlp, debenhams, police fine
The letter would appear to be their standard letter. If you look at other RLP letters that have been posted you will see that they are remarkably similar. Even the amount claimed looks familiar They have admitted in the letter that the goods were returned so the loss to Debenhams is zero. The time spent by the security man is for doing what he was paid to do and therefore no loss.
They are very unlikely to take this to court as the last time they tried this in Oxford they got well and truly spanked by the court.
A read of this might help.
If you do get claim forms from a court, highly unlikely, come back on here for help.
