The allowances for this year according to JRF and CAB etc (ie those they use to decide how much you can allocate in your income and expenditure sheet without being questioned about overspending) are £340 a month food and housekeeping for one adult, additonal adult is £229 and each child under 14 is £93 - so thats an insane £755 a month ! They are though the maximums allowed.

You can also look at the JRF Minimum Income Standard - which to me also sounds insane - http://www.jrf.org.uk/publications/m...-standard-2014

That used to allow for a bird table but they seem to have ditched that idea.

This is broken down in MUCH more detail in a Common Financial Statement, but those figures have to remain confidential unfortunately. The figures remain generous and certainly put us well below the poverty line. We live OK.

This is scary reading! The UK projects itself to the rest of the world as a developed and wealth country - all fur and no knickers!!!

If they hadn’t the birds would probably be eating better than the families!
How out of touch are these gits. Do they not realise that Dickensian England is not something to aspire to!

Can I clarify please? Are we saying the figures are too low or too high? Yes, I am serious - it's not clear to me. I must be suffering a brain blockage for a moment.

The average wage earner can also forget about a brighter future for his children as only high earners can afford to support their children through college. Due to atrocious cut backs they may not get access to legal aid and therefore will not always receive fair judgements or decent legal advice so will lose out to the ‘big boys’. Without private health you may come out of hospital sicker than you went in and that’s if you don’t croak before you even get into the filthy, under staffed, infested hospital in the first place.:tsk:
