Just Criminal law and tort in Year 1? Which institution is this?
Anyway, even if you have not yet had to pick up a contract law textbook, I suggest that you read the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, and inform yourself of what it says about recovery of parking charges.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. Maybe we'll get a case where you can show off your knowledge of the rule in Rylands v Fletcher!Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

There's alot in freedoms act I didn't know. Will for future ref though thanks .
I've not seen that case before..closest I've seen is a car rolling down a hill smashing aa building and 2 peoppe diving out of the way and claiming damages.
Rylands v fletcher looks like they were liable as the contractors they hired negligently overlooked sealing up the shafts and as they own the land the water escaped damaging the mines...that's case seems better than our car claims cases

These parking companies & their tame legals love to misdirect themselves when invariably referring to it.
Btw, there's no mention at all concerning the ubiquitous spurious add on charges made for debt recovery in that case.
I wonder why?
