Hi, we live in West Sussex in a property built for a disabled person. My wife has MS and other problems. We have a dedicated parking bay outside with road markings and a sign saying parking for our address only.? We've lived here 5 yrs and never had a problem, that is until just before Xmas. We had a parking charge notice from one parking solutions for not displaying a blue badge. I appealed but they said I had to pay £100. I now have a dept collection firm wanting £170. Any advice would be very grateful. Thanks in advance. Ray.

Is this a private road where you park? or is it a public road?

Hi PT, it is a public road but generally only used by residents of the flats. Thanks for your reply by the way. The other thing is ,when they issue a blue badge they say not to leave it on permanent display because of theft.

So its a public road, were sure about that? if so, im a tad confused why a private company appear to be issuing tickets on public roads.

Can i ask if you are able to post up the ticket? with all personal details redacted?

This is quite intriguing to say the least.

There are a lot of parking spaces around the rear of the property, because there are flats there as well. I think the parking firm were hired to stop others parking in their spots. They have permit parking round there.

But if your space is on the public road, as opposed to a private road, then i do wonder what business a private parking co has issuing tickets. Seems somewhat bizarre to me

Well that's why I questioned it. I don't think road markings are enforceable. Although it states it's for our flat, I'm not sure the police could do anything if someone else parked there. Should I ignore them do you think.

Re parking spaces on public roads, I know areas in Swansea where the road is public but the adjacent parking bays (separated from the road by a white line only) are private and controlled by PPC.
May be a similar position here

It might be worth, if you can, going out and taking pictures of the parking area, your space, and any signs put up in the area regarding parking enforcement. Is your house council owned or private ? Is the parking space part of the property ? ( who created the road markings and signage for your space ?)

West Sussex council seem to be doing a lot of changes regards permit parking etc - https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-...consultations/ - I don't know if you've gotten caught up in that somewhere along the lines. Or if it used to be public but is now private and part of the flats land.
