Re: Newlyn Bailiffs RE: Council Tax

Yes, I plan to tweet this later once I've written a summary.
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

          TWEETED :beagle:

I copied the posts over from Cornish Pasty's original thread so that Twitter visitors would be able to get to the story without trawling 160+ posts!

Ploddertom suggested a FOI to Coventry City Coucil to ascertain how many of these letters have been sent to debtors owing less than £750.

It is pure fantasy to think Cornish Pasty was the very first victim?

When I spoke to Newlyn Bailiffs, they tried to claim the debt could lead to Bankruptcy and Committal to Prison. I agreed that 'theoretically' it could lead to committal, but that it could never lead to bankruptcy, therefore they were in breach of debt collection guidelines.

After checking with 'the manager' he further insisted that Coventry City Council was 'aware and supportive' of their collection letters.

Coventry City Council clearly were unaware of such letters and therefore guilty of weak contract management. Reassuring....not

So LB will send off a FOI next week to ascertain how many of these have been sent out.

It looks like CCC were allowing Newlyns to deal with all correspondence relating to CT arrears enforcement. Apart from it being weak contract management, as you point out, Cel, the elected representatives and lgos who sanctioned it need to be called to account. It will be interesting to see just how many threats of bankruptcy which are inappropriate have been sent out in the name of CCC.

As it could have been a refusal to pay collection charges rather than a refusal to pay the tax itself, I would contend that committal would not even be theoretically possible.

I also seem to recall that making improper demands reinforced by threats or menaces is a serious criminal offence which is usually punished by a year or three in gaol.

After checking with 'the manager' he further insisted that Coventry City Council was 'aware and supportive' of their collection letters.

If the $hitty council is unaware of such letters, how will they be able to respond (other than negatively) to an FOI request?

On the other hand, if they truly are unaware of such letters, would that not be solid proof of egregious maladministration?

By "maladministration", I was only concerned with what the LGO would make of it.

It was also a bad day for Coventry yesterday their Footy club went into liquidation.

Also their Social Services team failed to notice little Daniel Pelkas horrific abuse going on right under their noses.
So no, not a great day for Coventry :tinysmile_cry_t:
