    Cricketer’s Son Awarded £159,000 Over Neighbour’s Harassment

In July 2025, Jeremy Cowdrey, son of former England cricket captain Colin Cowdrey, was awarded £159,000 in damages after a neighbour's campaign of harassment and misrepresentation over a strip of land that included part of his tennis court. The neighbour's actions made Cowdrey's £3.85 million property unsellable, leading to the substantial award.

The case of Kaye v Lees (2023) EWHC 152 (KB) is a significant judgment concerning the enforcement of debts under the Debt Respite Scheme, particularly in relation to Mental Health Crisis Moratoriums (MHCMs). The dispute originated from a claim by Mr. Ivan Kaye against Ms. Amanda Lees for nuisance and harassment, leading to a County Court judgment in Mr. Kaye's favour and an award of £96,963 in damages, plus £50,000 in costs. Ms. Lees failed to pay the judgment debt, prompting Mr. Kaye to seek enforcement through a charging order and subsequent order for sale of her leasehold interest in the property.

But you haven't had three estate agents come out and value your property or at least haven't mentioned that before so your claim of £70,000 to £105,000 damages is just plucked from thin air.

Similarly you said costs for a contested hearing would be £60,000 but then said your neighbours said they wouldn't contest...

The point I'm making is that you are convincing yourself that everything is going to turn out as worst-case scenarios when the likelihood is that things will turn out somewhat differently.

Every year there are literally millions of neighbour disputes and roughly 1.7 million actual court claims in the UK so the tiny handful of Order for Sale articles you have found simply confirm what everyone is telling you; such outcomes are incredibly rare.

You do seem to be fixating on a forced sale as a way to finally get rid of your abhorrent neighbours and, while I do understand why, it is clouding your judgement. You are treating the Order For Sale as a foregone conclusion so much that you are considering lying to get a £40k mortgage while you are out of work - the tragic irony here is that you could be the one to lose your home...

Before committing to tens of thousands of (borrowed!) pounds in legal fees I would urge you to make it absolutely clear to your solicitor what your ultimate aim is (i.e. an Order for Sale) as they are obliged to give you an honest appraisal of your likelihood of success.

In a similar vein, have you approached any no win no fee solicitors to take their view on your case? It's not something I'd normally suggest but in your case you don't particularly care who gets the compensation, you just want it to be enough to force the sale of the house. If a NWNF solicitor will take the case on then that may reassure you of the merits of the case while if they aren't interested that may give you pause for thought.
