Intimidation

I’m a witness in a child abuse case. Defendant’s bail states no direct or indirect contact. He’s instructed a solicitor in his partner’s name and threatening to sue me for defamation. This has arrived just a few weeks before his trial and is clearly a threat to stop me giving evidence. The Police say they can’’t act as it’s not a breach of bail conditions because he’s using a 3rd party in his partners name.
The civil statement is full of lies and and the Police know it is. I believe the real reason for this is to try and stop me giving evidence or to stress me so much, my evidence will be affected, and it’s doing that, but Police say they can’t do anything. Is this intimidation, fraud, and an attempt to interfere with a witness?

Unless you have made defamatory statements against his partner she cannot sue you. And she can't sue you on his behalf.

Could you redact and post a copy of the letter ( don't need the detail of what was claimed to have been said/writtene etc just on what grounds they are claiming defamation) You may need to respond to it if it is a legitimate defamation complaint.

You are right to make the police dealing with the case aware. It will be noted.
