My beautiful daughter was a target at a School. By one man and an an unbelieving staff. He would say things to her as she past him on stairwells ieven in a crowd as she past by. He targetted her everyday as she resisted him and fought his control. He was actually taken to court for Underaged fornication with a student... The school closed ranks on him whilst she was there and boy was she kicking off Terrible at Home aggressive unwilling to attend - O GOSH I wish I had listened and taken her out to Home school. My freind has five adopted two and fosters - they are all home schooled, Get brilliant marks. Such Fun they go away for week trips, Geology, History Archelogical...visit minor / major galleries concerts and are amazingly leveled grateful children. Happy Heathly loving giving family ITS not for everyone but It can be the best thing a parent can do with and for YOUR child:grouphug:

Totally agree!! I might be a self-centred, pig-headed, mean s.o.b ... but I will always stand up for what I believe in - what I think is right!! My two are home-educated because they were not enjoying school ... they were getting bullied for speaking in a different accent, they were being victimised for coming from a 1 parent family ... additionally, they were punished because I 'had the gall' to question what/how they were being taught.
For me, home-education was not a decision I took lightly. It was the result of almost 3 years of victimisation and hassle.


Their whole persona has changed as a result of my taking them out of the education system. Not only are they learning MORE but they are now seeing learning as a positive thing - Learning can be fun, if you are investigating what you want to learn. It can be interesting if you have a say in the methods of teaching.

I would never try to dictate to another what they should (or should not) do - but I will always be more than willing to help another to live up to their potential :tinysmile_grin_t:

I home schooled my son in primary school as I felt the classes were to big and the teachers overstretched. Secondary, he went to a school with small classes and was well ahead of the rest of his class. He is now a pharmacist. so don't knock home schooling.

The sexual predators are often found lurking behind 'moral jobs',priest,vicar,childcare worker etc.I just have this deep feeling of guilt when I look at my child leaving in the morning(when he's just about managed to be hungry to eat)for nine hours with a person I know very little about to receive his daily dose of state pro-gramming.It doesn't feel natural:tinysmile_cry_t:

Not sure of the distinction between a priest and a vicar, but my father was a parish priest/vicar who was also a qualified teacher. I was a Headteacher, my sister is a Headteacher, my mother was a teacher. I guess one of us must surely be 'lurking behind the job' rather than the upright, respected people such as TV presenters, radio presenters, people who paint protraits of HM Elizabeth II etc.... Nothing like a generalised comment as mentioned previously.

As for your child being away for nine hours - ask them what they're doing for the other 2.5 hours, possibly getting a real education!

I think it is highly appropriate in some cases to home school a child, and I think any state school which claims they can meet the needs of all children in its care is lying.

If anyone saw the programme 'Child Genius' on TV recently, how many of us could have taught them anything, let alone in a class of 30 other mixed ability children? Many with Aspergers become highly knowledgeable, or have formidable talents in specific areas, yet huge needs in others - can we cater for them properly?

The whole issue is a massive debate.

That makes perfect sense to me. It's actually far easier for a parent to ensure their child receives the above than a school.

I remember the battle I had getting a child who was just two years ahead of his peers educated properly. It was fine while he was in 'my' school as I could move him up a year - he quickly rose to the top of the class and adjusted socially etc..... I moved him up another year to Year 6 and he got two Level 5's and one Level 6 in his KS2 SAT's. After Y6 he was due to move to secondary school.

What a battle with the LEA! They really did not like it. It was clearly suitable for the boy. We simply could not meet his needs in many areas any longer (not least because a primary school just doesn't have the relevant equipment in subjects like Science). We got there in the end, but they were very much against the idea. After a range of special assessments and a chat with Ed Psych it was agreed eventually.

I'm sure the parents would have loved to educate him at home, but they both needed to work, and they probably did not have the specialist knowledge to meet his needs. Now, he was bright, certainly among the most intelligent children I ever taught, but there are lots even more intelligent who are also very mature and 'normal' well adjusted children.

My boys have come on in leaps and bounds since we took them out of school They have learnt more in the past 2 years than they did for most of their school life before that. I wouldn't say it's something anyone can do (or even want to for that matter) but I love it!
