  • Asset Collections / old Brig

Hi, over the past 3 years I have received numerous emails from Asset Collections and Investigations regarding an old account I had with a well known pay weekly high street retailer, they say I owe almost £2000, in one of their initial emails they said I could pay £800 to settle the debt, then several months later I received another email in which they said I could pay £250 to settle the debt, I have never responded to any of these emails as I do not believe I owe this company a single penny, they have since sent further emails saying that they now want me to contact them to set up a repayment arrangement to pay the full balance or to discuss a reduced settlement figure, am I best to keep ignoring these vultures? Or should i acknowledge them?

Until you receive a letter that is titled "Letter Before Action" and has forms enclosed with them to respond to the letter then you can ignore hoping the debt slips over 6 years since the last payment or the default date which ever is later.

If you get that letter though they are intending moving forward with court and therefore come back for advice.

On my credit file the original creditor has not reported a default, in fact the account is marked as closed with a balance of £0.00

That is because they have sold the debt to a purchaser, in this case Asset.
