  • Bankruptcy demand by Wright Hassalll ref: Cabot

Hi, I have received a second letter from Wright Hassell warning they will file for bankruptcy and charge me £2,160 on top of an alleged debt of £2,599...what do I do?

I did owe some debt to Egg, but didn't think it was this much and I had paid some off a while back.

Can they do what they threaten? I do not have the money to pay them.

    Hi and Welcome.

Sounds like they may be considering a statutory demand against you. Could you scan in or type up the wording on the letter please.
Have they said what their costs are?

Was the Egg debt a loan or credit card?

    Its now with Cabot.

We'll get a request off for a copy of your agreement to try and stall them while you suss out what this debt is.

Do you own your own home?

They can't just 'file for bankruptcy', they'll need to start by issuing a statutory demand, which you will have the opportunity to have set aside (Celestine, one of the site owners has an excellent track record on that department. :yo.

Only after they've done that, can they proceed to issue a bankruptcy petition. Due to the fees involved, it's an expensive process for them to take the insolvency route as opposed to the more conventional county court (CCJ) route, and there's no guarantee they'll get their money back. It sounds like they are trying to scare you into paying.

Could you post up the letter you got, after removing your personal details? :typing:

Can you give us some more details such as:
        • Was this an Egg card or a loan?
        • When did you take out the card or loan?
        • When did you last make a payment?

As above, they can't just make you bankrupt, they'll have to follow a process. If you're worried, take a look at all of Cel's victories with SDs. :yo: :yo: :yo:
