    The Court would expect both parties to narrow the issues, if there is something of substance regards evidence it could compel the other-side to change course regarding the case, also saving wasted costs etc.

      It's actually less than that. It includes ccourt and solicitor fees.

        That explains why the solicitor is so keen to settle quickly.
        Even if the claimant wins at the hearing the solicitor's non recoverable fee will be more than the claim.
