Did you hear back from Vodafone ( did you send them a data subject access request ? )
You defaulted in 2012 - was that 2nd August ? ( so they're likely to be trying to get claim in before then when the 6 years is up - presumably they will argue the pre-action response was acknowledgement )
The amount being claimed is what, 24 months of monthly payments? so they need to show you agreed to a 24 month contract and the termination charges.
Was there a device included ? ( you still aren't sure if it was SIM only or what - does the invoice / statement give any more details ? )
But my earlier post stands - if you don't want to push them to evidence the claim and you're happy that you did have the contract with Vodafone and that the amount being claimed is valid, sort out an instalment arrangement before they issue court proceedings. It's about £600 I believe. If you could do a F&F they might accept 50-70% in f&f settlement.
Maybe do a picture of this invoice?

I never sent anything to vodafone in the end.
My default ends on 2nd August yes, the invoice just shows as a 24mth contract with minutes and data allowance, no mention that i can see of
weather it's sim only or phone.
I have added a pic of the invoice. They are wanting just over £700 from me which i do not have at the minute.

How has it got to £700 ? That bill is for the early termination/cancellation fee so that should be the amount being claimed plus legal costs - which wouldn't come to £400 odd.#staysafestayhome

I know.… have they offered any kind of breakdown at all ? think I'd be writing to them off the back of that invoice they've sent you asking how they have got to £700. I'm just going to have a look back at that preaction letter see if they say anything there.
Edit: Oh, thought you'd uploaded it, have you got it handy ? they should have a breakdown of the debt on that letter before claim letter ?#staysafestayhome

Did you make a payment of £200 ?
That seems to say the balance was £930 odd and you paid off £200 sometime after March 2013 ( if so stat barred is definitely out )
The invoice from Vodafone is for £227. Slight discrepancy there.
Wish you'd done the SAR to Vodafone it might explain things somewhat, but I certainly think you need to be writing back and querying the figures.#staysafestayhome
