  • Energy debt

I've received a letter from control account chasing me for debt I owe to extra energy from 11/01/16 to 21/06/16. I thought I'd paid this when I closed my account but out of the blue, about 5 months ago extra energy started to contact me about this bill. Since then I've ignored them and now I've received a threatening letter from control account saying they may send debt collectors or start court proceedings. Where do instant with this please?

So the way I that ofgem explain backbilling, they are breaking the law by harassing me for this bill?

The backbillung rules would only apply if they hadn't originally invoiced you for the amounts that are now allegedly outstanding - I'm not sure that's the case ?

Have you asked Extra Energy to detail where the amount has come from and for a full breakdown ? You were only with the company for 5 months ?

Might be worthwhile doing a subject access request to the company as well as asking for the original terms and contract and copies of all the bills and transactions on the account. You may then be able to, if this remains disputed, be able to make a formal complaint to ten and potentially to ofgem.
