    Re: No Claims Discount

Hi Tuttsi, I have never had an accident, although I have been driving longer than 9 years, I moved several insurers for many years as my cars came and went. It is only the last 9 years that I have kept track and forwarded my NCD as and when requested. I said I was concerned at the amount of times scam and scammers keeps coming up while searching for information about the company. I just want to learn more before I contact them again.

        Re: No Claims Discount

So have you given them your proof of NCD?

Normally max NCD is get max discount is 4/5 years.

This NCD document would have to show continuous years to get max discount normally 60/65%

If you cancel now they will charge a cancelation fee and by the looks of this firm it will be a hefty one according to other posters on the Money Supermarket thread I just read.

        Good Luck x

Yes I have sent them proof, the problem is they have refused it saying the underwriter needs to know where the car has been insured previously as they said I have informed them that I have owned the car since 2005. This is something I haven't done and if I had then I can't see why this would affect my NCD.

I just want to know the facts before responding. I imagine Insurers have guidelines they have to follow.

This is the Act of Parliament that regulates insurance companies. I don't know if it will help as I've not read it!

                    Re: No Claims Discount

Then you must call them and advise when you bought this car as it was not 2005 + you could give them evidence of the purchase invoice if you have one.

Remind them that PNCD goes with you and not the car and that car has only been in your possession since xxxxxx and the PNCD was buildt up on your previous vehicle(s) which you do not have anymore as it was knackered.

You must have a some nincompoop who answered the phone and who has not been properly trained.

My daughter was with Endersleigh whilst she was a student, as soon as she finished Uni, and was at home they wanted to double the premium as unemployed which is a higher risk than Uni - I still do not understand that concept, but guess every insurer has their own unique way of cadging people for money. In the end they agreed to TOR (Time on Risk for the unused part of the insurance as she only had a month to run and gave her her NCD even though she was short of 1 month. I managed to change her through a broker to Avivia at half the cost I was paying Endersleigh and she has a lower compulsory excess as well.

                        Re: No Claims Discount

First thing you need to do is check the Motor Insurers Database (MID) to make sure your vehicle is showing as insured. Otherwise, the police or DVLA could seize your vehicle. Go to www.askMID.com.

Second thing is check the insurer is authorised for general insurance and, in particular, motor insurance.

Third thing is to get cover via a reputable broker and insurer. I have never heard of an underwriter demanding to know who has insured a vehicle before.

Fourth thing, £300 cancellation fee is ridiculous. The average cancellation fee is £30-£35 plus payment for the time you have been on cover, if paying by monthly instalments, less any payments you have already made.

This insurer has scam written all over it.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.

Just been on ask MID and my car has come back as being insured. Thanks for the link BB, at least I know I'm covered, well for now anyhow.

                            Update
I've just sent an email to a member of my insurers 'NCD Team'. I have said that I sent them proof of my NCD in the form of my renewal notice from my previous insurer (one of their acceptable forms of proof). I also explained that I have amassed my NCD over the years with several vehicles and several insurers, and that I don't understand why this was not proof enough. I have also asked them am I not right in thinking that it is the driver and not the vehicle that accumulates the NCD.

                              Re: No Claims Discount

Just got home to find the following letter sent by my new insurance company, the letter is dated 18/05/12 and reads........ We have not yet received proof of your no claims bonus. yes you have it was emailed on the 13/05/12 and corresponded too also.
As a result we have applied a £15 charge to your policy to cover our increased administration costs. This amount has been added to your monthly direct debits. An updated direct debit summary is overleaf. This shows your new monthly payments.
We will now remove the No Claims Bonus from you policy, which will result in either an increase to your insurance premium, or the cancellation or your policy. We will confirm this in a separate letter.

Looks like my instincts were right.

                                Re: No Claims Discount

Is your PNCD from your last insurer? or is it from all different insureres on different vehicles as it is not clear from your posts the actual position? They will be looking for one document showing all the total years of NCD as proof.
