Was your payment due to be paid in yesterday ( Friday ) - if so it should have been okay - it might be worth contacting the council and checking they haven't had any issue with their system or your claim at all.

Do you pay your rent manually usually ? if it goes out by SO/DD then check with your bank that it hasn't been taken/ tried to send it and incurred any charges.
