  • Benefits to help with mortgage repayments?

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any benefits I can claim to help with my mortgage repayments?

I am on a very low income under £500.00 per month because i work over 16 hours I qualify for working tax and child tax credits, and as far as I know that is all I am entitled to.

Problem is ex hubby can no longer paythe mortgage well not all of it so is there any housing benefit I can claim?

I have tried CAB but they never call me back or are always busy lol!

Any infomation be greatly appreciated I have been on the benefits calculator but it doesn't show housing benefit!

    Thank you!

Afraid not, As you aren't on income support then you wouldn't be entitled to help with the mortgage interest through Housing Benefit.

I presume when you split with your ex Hubby you remained in the house and it remains in joint names.

Does he pay any Child Support on top of the payments he has been making to the mortgage ?

How much is the mortgage each month and how much is the deficit ?

Have you done a full income and expenditure sheet ? If not you should do one, as it will give you a decent overview of your actual circumstances.

If you are in danger of being reposessed then you may be able to get help through the Mortgage Rescue Scheme - which is run by your local authority so you would need to get in touch with them.

    You should currently be receiving

    Income Support
    Child Tax Credits
    Working Tax Credits
    Child Benefit

As well as your wages. You should also qualify for Free School Meals, but this depends on your local authority.

How many children do you have and are they under 14 ?

Also, have you spoken to your lender about switching to interest only rather than repayment mortgage for a time, or are you stuck in a fixed term ?

Any support I provide is offered without liability, if you are unsure please seek professional legal guidance.
