  • Help **Tax Credits Cock Up** - Settled

Right guys to keep it simple I will keep it brief.
Child tax credit wrongly thought that I had a massive overpayment due to a manual error by a nugget in their offices after battling for 7 months it is now accepted that there has been no overpayment on my part but in the interim they have taken £739 of me made up of taking £24 a week out of my tax creds........Now the thing that is p!ssing me off is this..........They accept that I have the right to get this money back BUT...........they are refusing to give it back to me as a lump sum and are now going to divide it up into payments to be made to me from now till next April. While this is a result the fact is that my Tax Credits are used as income for Council Tax and Housing Benefit reasons as I am a student as you all know and this is classed as income therefore if they divide this money up that they have taken of me it is going to look like I get more money than i do and I am going to be financially penalised by HB and CT benefit. As i only get a pittance towards it the mo it will reduce it even more and I think this is very unfair. My MP got on to them and they have said this is the only way they can give it back to me and although someone in complaints departemt told me I would get a lump sum that I was indeed misinformed. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, in my experience, the Tax Credit lot are a law unto themselves. If that is the way they decide to pay it then that is what they do and nothing on heaven and earth will change their thinking

P.S. Did you know that there is dedicated number for MP's to call on..........Seems they make lots of cock ups and believe me when your MP uses the number it makes them sit up and take notice. if any of youa re having problems then try it and see what happens.

Wouldn't any benefits come under the same guidlines?
Say you make a benefit claim and they take ages to process it, then they would back pay in a lump sum.

Looks like a way they try to cover up thier mistakes.

Theres also the worry that you may go out of the Tax credit criteria and what would happen then.???

but a Nice result for you and thanks for the MP tip

What you could do to trigger a larger payment is tell them that your income has dropped and backdate it. After this triggers your over payment ring them back and give them the correct amount sighting a unsight on your side. Hey presto everything upto date.

Would also complicate matters further. Knowingly providing false information is a criminal offence and obviously not the best of ideas as why run the risk of losing your benefit entirely?. I think the methods Gobby used have proved far more effective and faster.
