  • PPI letter from HSBC

Hello and thank you in advance.

I have just received a letter from HSBC. The opening line states " our records show you have purchased PPI" the letter goes on to say that I need to ask the bank to investigate and fill out the attached questionnaire, I have done this and sent it off. I have never even thought about claiming as I have never needed PPI as I have been fully employed since 16 yrs old. 6 years in the armed forces and currently 6 years as a police officer so as you can see I would never need it and to be honest a little shocked they are informing me now. I currently have two closed/paid off loans and one active according to HSBC, I do not have much paperwork for any of it and on calling HSBC they said they are sending the loan agreements out to me.

I have no recollection of purchasing PPI for anything and I have wrote a letter explaining to them the reasons why I would never need it, I sent this with their questionnaire, but as I say its in black and white on the letter that I have indeed purchased it.

The only time I think I saw any sort of insurance on a statement was on a number of credit card statements online, this credit card is also paid off but I do distinctly remember seeing that I had paid insurance a number of times, I think it was around £12 each time, I am unsure what this is so I have also asked HSBC to look into this.

So far am doing the right thing by asking for the agreements to be sent to me and if I still dont see any PPI on the previous agreements how do I find out where I have paid it as HSBC are clearly telling me I have purchased it.

thank you so much for any help you can provide.

    Hi and welcome

If PPi was applied then it "will" show on your Credit Agreements.

It looks like your going the right way forward and going by your employment, you are correct that you would not have required this cover.

However, if you wish to see more of your details of each account held with any business you can if you wish send them a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter per business (not per account) so for eg, if you had a few loans with the same business, one SAR request will cover all included, with the one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order. (I suggest cheque so you will know when its been cashed in), they have up to 40 calendar days to comply.
If you would like the SAR template letter to request for your info from each business, let us know and we can post up the template for you.:tinysmile_twink_t2:

    Hope this helps.

      Hi and welcome Stewiew.
Very good advice from our great Di.
I think the best way to proceed is to apply for SAR.
      That will clarify everything.
      Di's template letter is perfect.
      I used it myself.
You are correct, you did not need that PPI. So you have a very good strong ground to prove a mis-sale.
      Best of luck.

Thank you both for your advice. Before I read about this SAR request I rang HSBC and requested all my loan agreements to be posted to me, the call handler said this would be actioned however all I had from them was a letter stating they don't have the documentation. I'm struggling to understand how they can tell me I have purchased PPI but don't have the ability to tell me when or how I purchased it. How can they possibly compensate a person if they dont know the figures. It sounds like a load of rubbish and a complete text book response.

Did you send off the SAR request as advised?? Personally, I've found most companies try to 'fob you off' with denials like this until they receive a SAR

            Re: PPI letter from HSBC

Im going to wait until they have replied to my complaint about the sale of PPI before I do anything. At the end of the day they started this process by telling me I have purchased it in black and white so they must have all the information they need already. Fingers crossed.
