I applied for a personal loan with First Direct in 1993 together with my then wife and I applied for another loan in 2001 in my own name. For both occasions I have a copy of the original applications which show that PPI was taken out on both loans. Both accounts were closed in 2004 when I went into financial difficulties.
Last month I filled out an FOC Questionnaire and asked First Direct for the PPI to be repaid. I received a letter this month saying "Our records show you applied for the loan on 21 March 2001. Under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 we're obliged to keep transactional data for a maximum of six years, so although we have a copy of your original application, we do not have any transactional data. We are therefore unable to progress your request any further at this stage. However, if you can provide us with documentation confirming the premiums you paid, please forward this to us and we'll look into it for you."
I subsequently paid £10.00 for a SAR and was sent a whole bundle including copies of the original applications, but I don't know where to find any details of PPI transactions.
1. How do I find documentations confirming the premiums I paid?
2. In 1993 the loan was taken out jointly with my then wife. As I am now divorced, can I still claim for PPI on my own behalf?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
