My wife took out a card with Debenhams and took out PPI. She didn't really know anything about it and cannot remember asking for it. We sent of a letter to Santander who have replied saying they are not paying her because they don't beleive it was missold.
However, the letter does state ' there was no requirement upon us to record the sales process and so we have no way of knowing what took place in March 2004.'

They have said she can now take her complaint to the FLA. I wondered why it was these and not the ombudsman?

      Hi

If they were not regulated by the FSA prior to these GISC, the FOS are unable to take on the complaint, as they have to be regulated with the above.
They were though by the FLA, so you could give them a ring to see if they are able to help.
Unfortunately though I am aware the FLA are not that helpful but no harm in ruling them out.

Failing that, you could still contact the FOS and ask of another direction to take with this, they normally suggest the underwriter/insurer of the policy who were possibly regulated, and they will investigate what involvement these have had within the policy, when it was sold to you. (your wife).

To find out who the underwriter/insurer are, you would have to contact the lender and ask them to provide the details on the post of these, and once you receive these, pursue the complaint with them, if they do not deal with your complaint or resolve, then you can try complaining to the FOS.

Do see what the FOS suggest first though, after giving the details of where you are on the reclaim now.

      Good luck.

I have helped many friends and collegues claim back mis-sold PPI from Santander. I could help you claim back from santander and any of there asscociates. i have exstensive knowledge of PPI sold by this particular lender. I have a large list of store cards that had PPI on them as well as details of the underwriters.
