Hello

I'm in a bit of a pickle and hope you can help.......i dont know what to do now!!!

I am in the process of claiming back my bank charges under finnancial difficulty......i sent the last letter last week telling them i will take them to the FOS if they dont refund me (i have sent them a financial statement and proof of rent and council tax arrears in excess of £1300)......i was paid yesterday and today i have £235 left after DD's etc..... i need to pay the childminder £280 today!!!

Which means i cant pay my rent.......i really cant miss another paymanti phoned customer relations today to tell them and asked them if they could possibly fast track my complaint but i'm scared they dont care.........i'm in it DEEP if i dont pay my rent!!!! I am a VERY WORRIED working single parent to 2 small children....

What do i do now??? do i keep phoning them???


Any advice would be HUGELY APPRECIATED!!!

Hey Sarah, good to see you here

If you have a copy of the letter you sent to them it would be good to see. They do have 8 weeks to deal with the complaint and annoyingly they seem to be stretching this out as long as possible. Your rent is probably more important than the child minder, although yes that is a hard one because of work and certainly more important than any other debts.

Can you briefly list your dd's / debts you are paying (or not paying) etc. how much rent arrears do you have (under two months?) and whats the situation with the council tax arrears ? do you have an arrangement in place - and would you not qualify for council tax benefit at all? You'll get single persons discount so ensure you re claiming that.

You are probably right in that they don't care, you are just a number, but we do not that that helps very much but its something isnt it and we'll help all we can.

Sorry i dont have the letters with me as i'm at work.........

I had to pay the childminder as she was off on holiday yesterday, she has been so patient and understanding i'm VERY lucky with her.......she deserves a medal:tinysmile_twink_t2: So the rents on the back burner until i get this sorted!

Here is a list of DD's Monthly:

Council Tax- £80
Car Insurance- £48
TV Licence- £12
Life Insurance- £11


I now owe around:

£900 Rent
£530 Council tax
£80 Childminder
£375 Pay day UK
£100 Garage
£120 Driving instructors
£160 to a Previous Nursery
£900+ Friends and Family

I was made redundant from a well paid full time job in february i am now on roughly £550 per month on a part time job.
I would like to work more but i live in a rural area with no after school care........i need to move but cant be considered for a move until arrears are paid off! which i have told the bank!

i also receive £170 per week tax creits + £120 per month in maintenance + £33 per week child benefit!

I HATE MOANING BUT I'M REALLY IN IT!!!!!

Hi FedUp. Sorry for your situation, been there, done that, got the teeshirt. In fact I am still wearing the bloody T shirt and am getting a bit fed up of it now lol.

Anyway, which bank are you with? Some banks are better at dealing with hardship than others.

You need to do an Income and Exoenditure sheet and post it up so we can see exactly whats coming in and going out, and have more of an idea how to help you. From what you've said, you've got about 1482 pr month income, which on the face of it isn't that bad, but obviously a lot depends on your outgings etc.

If your bank are being a pain and swallowing up all your wages cos you are overdrawn, best thing would be to open a new bank account and have your wages paid into that instead, and your dd's also, then you can start again and pay off the overdraft with your current bankby arrangment. This is a bit of a quick fix, but at least you would be better off by the overdraft amount for the first month, if you see what I mean. Then you can start to sort yourself out from there.

As your tax credits is weekly, then you've only got maximum 6 days to get through till you get another £170, so its not that bad is it? At least you haven't got to live on beans for a month, just a week or so!
Might be an idea to ring up the tax credits peeps and ask them to divert your payment to a new bank account or send you a giro if possible, that will stop the overdraft grabbing them.

hey sarah, welcome to Legal beagles. If you have a thread on MSE no doubt I might have posted on that already so for ease, I'll keep the advice to here so it isnt confusing. Is there any way of making any payment to the rent if only to show a willingness to pay rather then simply missing the payment altogether?
For example, if you pay by standing order or direct debit the bank should be able to give you the recipient details.
Is there anyway to be able to get other childcare arrangements or is it fixed in?

Following on from my post above, a basic bank account is best, I think the Post Office do one, and there's also the nationwide flex account, I think it is, which a few people on here use. With regards to the DDs, most things can be paid for by paypoint these days, so that might be a better option.

Post up your IE sheet as soon as you can and we can get things moving.

Post Office wont accept wages, only benefits.
As Wendy said Nationwide do one and also Halifax.
Your C Tax and rent can be paid by paypoint, your TV lic it's a little different you can pay it weekly here are the details TV Licensing - Cash payment plan
If you are not in arrears with them then maybe worth a phone call see if they can help you with this.
