Are they aggressive when chasing debts? Or are they decent to deal with?

Do they use the same scare tactics as other dcas?
Not personally, but please try to remember that DCA's do not have the same powers as court appointed bailiffs
They're not allowed to force their way in, they can't enter via a window, they can't do much tbh.

Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

Right, I have today received an outcome from the financial ombudsman service regarding this matter. The adjudicator telephoned me and also emailed me about it. But what she told me during the telephone call and what she wrote in the email isn't the same. I accepted their decision which was given over the phone, but I am now confused about what I have actually accepted. I understood that the college agreed that they would not pursue me for any alleged debt in connection with this matter and she said that the college would take back the account from their debt collectors and that they would also not sell it on to any debt purchaser companies. However, this is not what her letter says which is what is making me a bit concerned. So I need help with this.

      Can anyone assist me please?

The letter says as follows: " In an attempt to mediate and given the above I recommended that the college should cancel the agreenent and treat it as you never entered into it. However, I think the college should be entitled to retain the three payments of £32.20 that you've made including your £30.00 deposit as you were three weeks outside the cancellation period. The college has now agreed to the above." There is no indication that the college has agreed to ask their debt collectors to stop pursuing me for any alleged debt or that they won't sell it on to a debt purchasing company.

'treat it as you never entered into it' and 'cancel the agreement' means there is no longer any agreement on which a debt is based - thus there is no debt, the college have agreed.

As it is already with a DCA though I completely understand your concerns and I would go back to the ombudsman and ask him to confirm the college have agreed to call off the dogs.

I have received a reply from the ombudsman sent to meby email. It confirms that the college has agreed not to pursue me for any further money and that it confirms that they have agreed that they won't sell the account on to a debt purchasing company. It further says that the college would get in touch with me directly and if they don't do so within 4 weeks or if I have any problems, I should contact the adjudicator.

So, it appears this matter is sorted.:wink1:

Thank you to all of you who assisted me with this matter, your help is highly appreciated.
