credit search by debt collecter?

When you apply for credit you agree to a .. thats A credit search .. so it seems over six years barred etc or otherwise claim to have access to your credit file how so ??

Are you asking how a debt collection company is able to search your credit file ( for tracing your updated address etc ? )

Yes a friend had letter saying your credit file changed so can they at random access your credit file .. you give application one off permission and with mew dpa etc seems a bit off ?

When a collection agency purchases a debt that you owe, they may check your credit report periodically. Obtaining your report for the purposes of collecting a debt is considered a permissible purpose under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)

Sorry but how legally can dc have access to credit reports under new dpa when staued barred this makes no sense my friend jas notification about debts 12 years old ....??

Have a chat with the ICO - I'm not sure what search has been carried out that would notify you - have you got a copy of the searches page ?

But if these debts are well over 6 yrs old and long since statute barred you should write to the owners of the debts telling them they are statute barred and asking them to remove all data held about you from their files / systems. It would be interesting to see what response you get.

Thanks its not me enquiring for friend she took a small loan to visist her son and bombarded with dca letters from very old debts .. this is a breech surely of dpa ?

The debts still exist even though they may be statute barred. If she receives letters from the creditors/debt purchasers regarding the old debts she will need to reply to them stating that the debt is statute barred.
