I don't see why not, there is no credit, it is simply a payment vehicle .... do you not have a debit card with your bank ? ( some very basic basic accounts only have a cash card but most basic accounts do have a debit card ) or is it a case you want to get the s.75 protection ? as you wouldn't get that with a prepaid card as you need credit. Prepaid and Debit cards might offer chargeback though, which isn't as protective as section 75 ( not legal but voluntary ) but can still assist in the event something went wrong with the purchase. Debt Camel is far more up on DRO's and the odd restrictions surrounding them so hopefully she'll know for certain whether you can have a prepaid card while under a DRO.

You’ll also have to follow certain rules, called restrictions, during the DRO year. This means:
      • you can't borrow £500 or more without telling the creditor about the DRO
      • you can’t get involved in promoting, managing or setting up a limited company, or be a company director, without getting permission from the court
      • if you have a business under a different name from the one under which you got the DRO, you’ll have to tell everyone you do business with the name you used when you got the DRO
      • while the DRO is in force, and for three months afterwards, your details will appear on the Insolvency Service’s Individual Insolvency Register, which can be viewed by anyone. If having your name on the register could lead to violence against you or a member of your family, you can ask the court to order that your name doesn't appear on the register.

Can't see anything there about not being allowed a pre-pay card

Hi, yes I do have a Debit card : Let me relate. I am with Santander, which I find very agreeable at this time. I have three accounts, a saver with less than 300.00 , a CCard account and a Current Basic ( for everyday living, with a Debit Card, I use the everday account also for DDebits ( with overdraft 500 ).. If, when considering a DRO, I delete the overdraft, might I be able to omit the Santander account from my list of creditors ( as I would not owe Santander anything )? If it would help stay with Santander I could, before applying for the DRO, bring the balance to zero? I might in that case be able to, as Amethyst and Kati have suggested use the Debit card for a possible flight purchase? It would save red tape of closing with Santander and seeking a new account elsewhere which includes a Debit card?

        Regards,

Are you thinking of paying off the overdraft using your savings in part before applying for the DRO ? I think that's likely to be the only way you could do it without including, and potentially losing, the Santander account ( once paid off you'd need to cancel the overdraft ) Is the CCard account the one you are having the debt issue with or are there other things as well ? Of course using the CCard for the flight purchase would be the best option but whether you can wait till after you've done that hugely depends on the debt situation you're in that's leading you into considering the DRO. Have you taken advice on the DRO & Debts and looked at other options ?
