    Re: Debt problems

    Hi everyone

    Hope you are all well

I haven’t been around for a while because been busy trying to get things going in the right direction.

Situation so far with my particular problems

It took the department of work and pensions almost six weeks to decide that I was eligible for jobseekers allowance due to my previous self employed status so have been in a kind of limbo untill last week.

I got in touch with the insurance company that Nemo chose for my PPI who sent me a claim pack that included a section that has to be filled in by work and pensions (who couldn’t do it till I had been officially registered as signing on) so have only just sent this off(by registered post) completed.

I have been in touch with Nemo and have informed them of the circumstances and the fact that the next payment may be late due to the hold up with the claim…I think they are ok with that but will find out one the 1St June when the loan goes in to arrears.

The Barclay’s bank are in the process of changing my mortgage from a repayment to Interest only which will bring the repayments down to £226.07 pm …a lot better than the £378 I am paying at the moment.

The one credit card company that appears to be having a strop at the moment is the Halifax who are constantly phoning me with recorded messages..I have told them that I am out of work now and will struggle to find the repayments and they asked me to make a token payment just for this month of £5 which I have explaining that next month I may not be able to pay the same amount.

Today I received almost 8 backdated statements from them from various months dating back to last year but no explanation of why I have been sent them and can only assume that they have done this to point out that I have used the card like a bank cash card in the past as there are a lot of cash withdrawals on the statements but the statement also shows I have always paid the minimum amount due within the stated date.

The other C/C companies are in the process of sending me their various forms to fill in to explain in detail the reason for non payment.

I have now opened a Nationwide flexible account but have yet to receive my pin number so as of yet have not informed the First direct bank of my situation due to still having to use their services because of this.

My wife has also taken another part time job of 20 hours and is bringing in an extra £96 a week and while this in itself is not much the additional working tax credits we should get will go a way to helping us out in the future

            Re: Debt problems

            Hi Amethyst

Well I will feel a lot happier when I can get all my money over to the Nationwide and also when I am sure that the insurance on my homeowner loan will actually pay out.

I have a feeling that the Yorkshire bank PPI my be a little bit of a nuisance as the lady I spoke to seemed to be a little unsure of which forms to send out because they did not have any that covered my particular situation. but that is just credit card so not so bothered about them.

Another thing I found out is that the department of work and pensions will only confirm that you were unemployed up to the last date you signed on so I will be spending a lot of time going back and forth to job centre with forms from insurance companies.

I also needed for the YB insurance a written letter from the inland revenue to confirm that I had ceased trading and was expecting a problem there but when I phoned them and explained to the lady what had happened and what I had been asked to get she told me that there was no official set form for it but she would type something up for me to photocopy and send to the insurance.

I expected to have quite a wait for these knowing how government offices tend to move very slowly but was amazed whe 5 letters arrived two days later signed by the very person I spoke too.
