  • MMF claiming I owe money, but I don't - What do I do?

    Hello,

I received a letter a week or so from MMF, saying they were claiming an unpaid debt. I have never heard of them, nor of the company for whom they were claiming, and have never actually taken out a loan in my life, other than my mortgage.

I rang them and explained, and they said they would send me a form, which I should fill in and return, so they could investigate it as a fraud.

Just got the form, and they want all sorts of personal details which I don't really feel inclined to give them. Yes, I want to get them off my back, but I don't see why I should ahve to supply so much info that is none of their business.

Anyone any experience with this sort of thing? Not sure what to do.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

      Hello,

Thanks for the reply, but can you explain a bit more. I'm not a legal-beagle at all, so am not familiar with the terminology. Who is the principle?

I already told them I denied the debt, and they said I have to fill in this form so they can investigate it. If I send them a letter denying the debt, won't they just say I have to fill in the form?

Thanks again for the reply. Any further clarification would be appreciated.

        Good afternoon welcome to LB,

I have had many dealings with Motor Mouth over the years and was responsible
in part for getting the OFT to censure them.
Please do not phone them again they are a most unpleasant company.

What type of debt was this a Payday Loan?

You do not have to give them personal details.

I am just going to check on something then I'll be back to
        your thread.

I have been made aware of requirements made by the OFT regarding the conduct of MMF Ltd., in the past and
I will not hesitate to report its current conduct to the FCA.

I also require MMF Ltd., to remove all/any reference to this alleged debt from all credit reference agencies to

Wow, what a great response! Thanks very much.

I've used your text to write a letter, and just for good measure, emailed the same thing to them. I used a throwaway email address, so not really worried if they start sending me stuff. I will reply to the first one pointing out that I specifically instructed them not to email me, then junk any more

As for Noddle, is it really free and is it safe? Did a quick search, and found quite a few complaints from people saying that they were charged £12 per month. Not that my credit rating really worries me, as I'm not really in a position to need it, but it would be interesting to know what it's like.

          Thanks again.

Noddle is free definitely. Some people have signed up for Call Credit which is Noddle's parent company
            which does charge.

Re: MMF claiming I owe money, but I don't - What do I do?

                Hello again.

I got a reply to my email (not by post as I requested, but what do you expect!) apologising for the issue, and confirming that they will be conducting a full investigation, blah blah.

They request that I send them my full name, date of birth and first line of address. On the one hand, I don't feel inclined to give them any info, but on the other, they already have my full name and address, so it's only the dob that they would be gaining. If that is what's needed to get them off my back, I'm not sure it's worth arguing.

Any thoughts? Thanks again for all the help.
