    Re: LOWELLS

    hello again

my goal is to sort out my credit history asap as I don't want any black marks against my name. could anyone tell me what the quickest way to do this is.
would it make any difference if I paid the full amount? or should I just leave it? I have read so many different, conflicting reports that I have no idea what is going on anymore.
this was a debt from sept 2010. a mobile phone contract that was not paid as I left the country. does the 6 year rule apply? as in it falls off my record and there is no "black" mark on my name? thank you so much for any help x

      Re: LOWELLS

any default will automatically fall off your credit record after 6yrs (whether you're paying it or not). Paying in full leaves a satisfied (?) marker, paying a 'full and final' leaves a partially satisfied marker.
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

Yes, 6 years after you have defaulted the ''black mark'' on your credit file will drop off. There's not really any way of removing it soon unless it was put there unlawfully in the first place. If you pay the full amount it will be marked as satisfied but stays on your credit file. It won't be statute barred though so they can still chase you for it, as you have been communicating with them in the meantime. I don't think they will be happy with £1 a month forever either mind. I think just get it paid off when you can - you don't have any disputes over it so if they did take court action there's not much defence and a CCJ would really bugger up your credit file ( and they already know you care about that).

          thank you,
when would the 6 yrs start? when I stopped paying in sept 2010?
or is it now that they have contacted me since I have returned to the uk?
if they reduce the amount for me to pay, would it still be partially satisfied or satisfied?

On your credit file what date is the first default marker ? or are you on something like Noddle where it tells you the due to drop off date?

If you pay anything other than the full amount it will be marked as partially satisfied.

                Re: LOWELLS

when I did an Experian credit report on myself there were no figures anywhere.
I just did a standard one off and it had my correct old and new addresses but no other info. this is obviously where lowells got my info from as it was the only place I had given my address too. very confused. if I settle the full amount with them today, is it from today that they would then start the 6yr count

many creditors send your details/accounts to DCA's before going for a ccj

CCJ's are a matter of public record the best place to check is Trust Online that keeps the register of CCJs.

Once a defaulted account has been removed from credit files after 6 years it cannot be reported ever again.

If you want a full credit report try Noddle from Call Credit, it's free online.
