Re: HMRC Self Assessment Fines Question

Sole trader.......didn't file it at all. I havent filed any returns since, or before for that matter .

The business was VAT registered but under the umbrella of another company and the director of that company did the VAT returns so i really don't know - I know i had a hefty VAT bill a couple years. Ummmm this was the first SA return I had ever had - and as I wasn't taking any income from the company (it all just went back into stock etc) I didn't earn a penny from it officially - obviously I had the usual expenses for VAT. Turnover was only about 50k pa.

Sorry I know its all a bit hazy but I just literally closed the door on the office one day, half full of stock, and outstanding orders, and didn't go back in for over a year.

Its being run by my father now.

Christ you wouldn't believe I did Business and Finance at college lol.

Re: HMRC Self Assessment Fines Question

Okay heres the letter I sent last week

        urrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am in receipt of your letter and demand for payment dated 3rd March 2008.

Please send a copy of self assessment tax return for the relevant year, so I may complete and return it to you. The return will be £0.00 as no earnings were made in that period.

Additionally I would like to make a payment arrangement for the current debt. I am currently in receipt of income support, child benefit and child tax credits, as my sole income. I have also applied for housing benefit and council tax benefit.

I envisage being in a position to repay the debt in full in September of this year as I should have some funds available of property owned jointly with my husband, from whom I am separated.

Please confirm if a payment arrangement may be made in the meantime. I would be able to afford to pay £2 per week. This would have to be cash over the counter at the post office as I no longer have access to a bank account or debit card.

        Thank you for your time.
