Hello everyone. I am first time poster, and really this post in aimed at Lee at Vodafone. I am hoping Lee can prevent me from wasting £10 on sending an SAR and waiting until middle age to get a response.
I have read a lot on here already, and there are some horror stories. Hoping my situation won't go quite so far.
My situation has amused me, but now I am beginning to get irritated.
I had one collector (I call them 'Doh! Bandits') last year attempt to collect a Vodafone debt from me. When Doh! Bandits could not provide me adequate documentation to back up their claims they went quite. Now Lowell (I've read a few names for them!) are in touch, claiming to have purchased this debt from Vodafone this April. How can this be? Have Vodafone managed to sell this debt twice? Maybe they are clever after all! So far the lady I am dealing with at Lowell is being very polite, courteous and charming, as am I, at the moment. I have no complaints at the moment.
I am told I owe £400. This is crazy. This would equate to nearly an entire year of my previous contract! A quick précis; phone stopped working, called Vodafone to be told my phone number was not a Vodafone number, told my account number did not exist, told my name was associated with an old account. Now I must confess to my memory being a little hazy regarding implicit details. Unlike Vodafone, I do not keep voice recordings for training or monitoring purposes. I took the view that they terminated my contract and I mutually accepted. Now, I know I should have got all this in writing, but quite honestly, the effort one has to go to get these chumps moving is beyond me. I felt that if they had a problem with me not paying any money for nothing they would let me know by way of a stuffy letter telling me that I am naughty boy. No letter was forthcoming. The first occasion of being informed of this debt was when Doh! Bandits contacted me.
I have copies of my credit report from all 3 of the big names. Not only do none of them show this debt, there is also no mention of a previous Vodafone contract. There is also no mention of Lowell having viewed my credit report which they said they did to obtain my new address. I have informed the Lovely Lowell Lady of this fact and she has asked me to provide this detail to her. Should I do this? She also requests that if there are any other documents which support my claims that I should send them to her. Now, am I correct in thinking she is the one who has to prove that her documents support her claims?
I'll stop now, this has got a bit lengthy!
Thanks in advance.
