  • Lowell Group hounding me!

Hello everyone, I'm new here and would be greatful of some help,
A brief outline is, whilst I was a student I went over my Halifax overdraft of £100 by £1.15, so consequently got a charge of £30, I was unable to pay the fine and then got charged again. So I just stopped using the sccount, that was 7 years ago.
Last month I got a letter through my door from Lowell financial group stating I owed £600 (in bank charges) to Halifax and that they had bought the debt from them, I am not in any position to pay this debt. I was terrified so called them to arrange a payment plan and they bulldozed me into agreeing to pay £25 a month, on reflection I can't afford that either as I am a single parent, so I cancelled the direct debit, now Lowell are hounding me, I get 3 letters a week stating that if I do not pay they are sending bailiffs round to my house and I must get 10+ phone calls a day.
I don't know what to do, I can't pay these bank charges and I'm petrified they're going to come to my home and take my things. ,I don't want that for my little girl.
Has anyone had dealings with this firm before? Are they just scaremongering or are they really going to inforse baliffs.
Any help would be much apprecisted.
    Thank you. Dollie x

Yes, on all letters, if I don't pay in full, contact them, or make some arrangement, they will be sent to retrieve goods to the amount of debt.

You must report the bar stewards immediately. They cannot send bailiffs nor can they seize goods. NEVER speak to these gangsters on at the telephone. As you have seen they are liars and bullying thugs. If you are sure you paid nothing for six years then it is Statute Barred and they can do didley squat

Thank you so much, I never knew that! Who do I report them to?

And don't admit in writing that the debt is yours! You wouldn't want to upset the statute barred.

              Morning Dollie

Can we have a look at the dates .... What date was the last time you used the account with Halifax? Month/year is fine

What date did you ring Lowell to set up payment plan?

              Have Lowell threatened court action?

3 letters a week and 10 calls a day is far too excessive. Have you kept any of the letters ? If so could you upload pics of a couple. ( redact your personal info first )

Are you keeping a log of the calls ? If not, start.

Have you checked your credit file ? If so what's the status of this debt? Noodle seems to be the most used free way of checking files at the moment.

They cannot send a bailiff without a court order.

Lets try sort this out so the harassment stops ok.

Once a debt becomes Statute Barred no amount of calls, letters or written admissions can unset it.

Hence needing the dates between ditching the account and making the payment arrangement.
