  • Cabot!!

    Afternoon All

Received a letter from Cabot offering to reduce my £4000 debt to £1627.15. (Basically looks like they've given up recouping interest as I only pay £2 per month like my Santander loan). If I pay this amount, they will clear the account.

Now, the suspicious side of me says this seems a little too good to be true. I'm in a position where I can make a f&f payment and the allure of having one less DCA after me is very appealing. Moreover, can anyone direct me to/know of a letter template whereby I can get this agreement water tight so I know that the remainder of the debt isn't going to be passed on to another DCA. The letter from Cabot only states that credit reference agencies will be informed that on final payment, the account will state 'clear'.

As always, I ignore any telephone calls, and will only deal with written correspondence. According to the letter, I have 12 days to reply (which gives me til the 12th March).

Any advice is gratefully received - Toots

Afternoon. Some information for you - http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...ls-Settlements and http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...176#post103176 and http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...698#post102698

Apologies for just dropping links and running, basically to make the settlement watertight I believe it should come from a third party if that is at all possible, and I am pretty sure that there are some template letters about the place but I can't lay my hands on them just now.

Also if you are paying £2 a month on this and other debts and you are in a DMP then you might get some issues with your DMP provider as all creditors should be treated equally (ie that F&F sum you have split between all of them) but I disagree with that, if you can get one debt dealt with then your monthly payments can increase across those that are left, but just something to be aware of if you are in a DMP.

      Hi Amethyst

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly . The £2 per month to both Cabot and Santander were arranged by the C.A.B over 3 years ago as token payments. Cabot have left me alone up until now (I've posted on this site re: Santander as they were the ones grinding my gears a few months back).

Just trying to get my blonde bonce around all that information via your links (phhhheeeeeeew! - lots to take in!). I didn't realise they could u-turn on their own offers once a cheque has been sent. My partner is going to show the legal department in his company the Cabot letter and see which is the best course of action to take.

In the meantime, if anyone has had straightforward success in a DCA offering to slash the amount owed and clearing a debt once and for all, I'd love to hear from them plus any template letters.

      kindest regards - Toots

I am no expert but I assume your credit report is affected, why not carry on paying the £2 a month for up to 6 years when the item becomes statute barred anyway - total cost for the 6 years £144.00

Not advice just my 2 cents worth.

If its being paid does it become Statute Barred?
