Then, under section 6 and schedule 1 of the Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973, any obligation to pay that alleged debt will have been extinguished.

Can debt collectors legally call at your home anytime or should they have an appointment?

          Re: Capital Resolve home visit

That's difficult to say, as this may be one area where English Law differs from Scots Law. There is an English Common Law right to deliver mail or ask directions at a person's house, and this has been used by debt collectors to make unannounced visits. That is rightly considered to shew a want of manners and the Office of Faffing and Twaddling expects debt collectors to make an appointment first, though they'll do (predictably) bugger all about it if that principle is ignored.

However, if you don't owe the money or haven't paid or acknowledged the debt for over five years, you may tell them "Awa' an' bile yer heids, ya daft puddins".

I regret that I am inherently prolix.

Perhaps this letter might be appropriate?

                Dear numpties,

I am seated on my loo and, as I squeeze out a jobby, I have before me your letter threatening a home visit over a debt I neither incurred nor have ever acknowledged.

Soon, your letter will be behind and beneath me.

                Yours Faithfully.
