That was what I was wondering, the details of the complaint are on my previous post together with the contact details of the ASA.

I will be writing a complaint regarding the Wonga puppets of the pensioners add, I am just gathering info at the moment.

I wonder what the take up of these loans are by the older community ?
Obviously one of the poorest and hard stretched sectors, apparently only pensioners in Spain and Cypress are more likely to fall into poverty, 2.5 million surviving on less than 60% of the average wage, most in fuel poverty. That sort of thing.

I would be " counted" in the older bit gravy train and hate these ads, not sure how they would tempt people if I were to object how would I do so?

At least in Spain and Cyprus, you don't need to have the heating on for most of the year!
Spain offers a lot of affordable trips and activities for pensioners, a friend of mine (older than me, of course! :grin lives there, and is always traveling round, they even organise trips abroad. Even as a single person, the Spanish way of life makes older people feel less isolated, the streets come alive with older folk in the early evenings. Quality of life is not all about how much money you have to live on, but what you can do with your life.

Sadly for many pensioners its about whether they should have the heating on or if the can eat.

I think the whole lot of them,Wonga,CashLady,Amigo etcetc should be banned from advertising on the TV,they look so enticing and easy and when you're skidding along on the bones of your arse financially you will commit to anything just to put food on the table and electric on.
Having said that,,certain blame must lie with the people who take out loads of these loans knowing full well they are robbing Peter to pay Paul but with shedloads of interest added on.
Yes,,there are desperate people in this country and companies like these exploit that, but there are others that are just living way above their means.

Does anyone record the rates of suicide caused by the demands by those usurers?

                    Re: Cash lady banned

When they first started offering loans they used to try and justify them by saying that they were being used by people who were temporarily short of funds and justifying the high APR by comparing it to overdraft charges.

I notice in the new adds they have completely dropped that pretense, they show people who are outside of conventional lending, pensioners, young couples with no disposable income, even bloody aliens in one of the new ones I saw last week.

Of course these also represent the most vulnerable members of society.

Indeed, just like tobacco advertising was banned years ago, even though it didn't really make people smoke,:smokin: it was intended for smokers to choose one brand over another, most people started smoking in their early teens to be cool, rebellious, or a bit of both! :flock::rockon:

Payday lenders target the more vulnerable groups: people on low income, with poor credit, etc. who are the ones who could least afford their extortionate interest and charges, rather than the extravagant. I've never taken a PDL in my life, so I'm not speaking for myself here.

That's another area that needs legislation: the threats many of those companies utter are outrageous, there should definitely be a law against people being threatened with things like imprisonment when they haven't committed a crime!

Oh,,I totally agree that they target the most vulnerable in society,,please don't misunderstand me.
BUT..reading round fora,I see quite a few folks asking for help because they couldn't wait till payday to buy something not really needed straight away and forgot they would have to pay the loan and the interest back and find their bank balance raided.
Like these 'log book loans'..I'd never heard of them till I joined LB,,I saw last night (on that repo man programme) that you should pay £15 for an HPI check before buying a car from someone cos if there is a 'log book loan' on it and you don't know they will come after you for it,or take the car !!
It's way too easy now to get sucked in by loan companies,,quite scary really

Yes, cant remember which one it was. I came across this scathing attack on PDL.

OFT chief executive’s Clive Maxwell commented: “We have found fundamental problems with the way the payday market works and widespread breaches of the law and regulations, causing misery and hardship for many borrowers. Payday lenders are earning up to half their revenue not from one-off loans, but from rolled over or refinanced deals where unexpected costs can rapidly mount up
