Well Done Leagle Beagles! Result!

Hi All,

You may remember in my early postings I asked for help for a debt with a car loan that had long been defaulted and was with solicitors awaiting court action. This company had put a charge on our house and ultimately ended up making us sell it.

This morning I received a letter replying to mine to them, confirming that they are writing the debt off! £2321.00. This is a brilliant result and thank you so much to everyone who helped me at the time, I really cannot thank you enough.

Another LB success story - thank you!

Can anyone answer this one? What happens to debts that get written off? I know they just go as bad debts against the company and then the company is charged less tax so ultimately who pays for these written off debts? I am just interested in how this all works and not making judgements because I have no idea on this.

In my case I believe I did. The original loan was for (figures all approx now) £8500. I'd repaid nearly £10500 and still owed £2300. I'd more than paid the debt with a fair amount of interest (and paid for taking it out in the first place). I know what you mean though, and I don't know the answer - sorry!

Yes Ame - that's the one. Never heard anything from the solicitors. FU sent me an arrears statement last week and I sent them a stiff letter back enclosing a copy of my original and IE sheet, saying I believed that by harassing me in that way they were breaching MALG guidelines and asked for a response to my original letter. That came this morning.

And there must be a fair few who are in the same position as me - effectively they've paid the debt and more and are just paying the ridiculous default / late payment charges which quickly mount up. I'm quite sure they've still made a healthy profit out of me!

£8 k and they had the car back (I think?), and £10.5k and they STILL wanted another £2k.
