Hello and Good evening all.I am hoping for some advice.I have recieved a letter from Mackenzie Hall starting:-
We are attempting to contact the above named person regarding a personal matter. We have been provided your address as being a possible residential details for our subject.........this continues asking basically to contact but no information as to why.I googled the company which i have researched leading me to this great site so briefly this is the background.I have been overseas for 8yrs and recently moved to this address.I am not going to lie,i know i left behind a credit card debt but i did an experian search when i got back which is showing clear therefore as far as i am aware my credit is clear so my question is what to do???
Obviously i don't want to pay as my circumstances are not good at the moment but the last thing i want is being hounded for an old debt.I can't even remember how much it is for it's that long ago
    Please Help

    ROFLMAO

ANYTHING from Muckie Hall should be filed under I.

These "people" specialise in the completely unenforceable and statute barred debt.

NEVER even acknowledge their sad existence.
NO responses or phone calls EVER..

You may not know this if you're new to the site, but Curley Ben is the God of DCA's. File under I means file under ignore. You will not go wrong following his advice! Rest easy and ignore all contact till they go away (may be a while)!

                Well. 99.999% anyway.

There are a number of doorstep collectors who turn up in a minuscule (and I mean tiny tiny % of cases), but I can't recall a single case or MeritForce actually sending someone.

I would turn up... but i quit working for that bunch of scum months ago! Go and read up the OFT guidelines they should stick to when visiting, and get ready to write a list of breaches if they turn up. They deserve everything the OFT can throw at them IMO. Simple things that might throw the agent: Get your partner to ask for his ID card, not you. Get your partner to admit knowing about the debt and entering a discussion about it and repayments etc.

Should be quite easy to get the agent to slip up and make a formal complaint, although of course its safer and easier to just ignore the letters and tell them to FO when they turn up!!

@ben, Wouldnt the letter i used on capquest re statute barred barclay account get them off the case? IIRC 90% of debts i chased for them were not enforcable for the same reason!!

Muckie are best ignored, they will freely ignore anything you have to say to them, so save the postage.

I am sure i emigrated with 1 outstanding credit card so can't think what this one is for?
At the end of the day i was away so long so surely the statued barred applies????

                          Re: mackenzie hall

I got one of these "we're trying to contact the above person" letters today and i'm not sure what path to go down so would be grateful for any help.
The thing is they know i live here, they've been sending me letters for statue barred debt's for 5 years now .
Each time i get the letter i do the statue barred letter, they leave alone for roughly 1yr and then start again as if they'd never contacted me!!!!!
I've fired off an e-mail to east ayrshire trading standards this time as i hear they love being told about them, but i don't know if i should send the statue barred letter now or just wait.
Any debt this is concerned with is at least 13 years old and until they began as my pen pals i'd not had any correspondence at all!!!
Any advice would be much appreciated and i'm assuming the're still not the brightest lot!?

Honestly, file it and save the money for the stamp.

These type of letters are in serious breach of OFT collection guidelines, but that never worried Mucky.

Thanks, i thought that's what i'd be told but i like to make sure. Although it's quite evident from anything you read about them the're not exactly on the high end of the iq scale, it's still abit of a shock when they start this up again and again!
