Morning all,
I was given an offer letter on the 8th of July this year from Cabot for 75% off reducing £1350(ish) to £340(ish). There appears to be no expiry on the offer. It says I'll receive a letter that the account is closed but doesn't state that it will be marked as partially settled, as I assume it will.
I had a little financial trouble a few years ago and I have ignored everything that has come through my door so far. So far, so good... My finances are fine now and I can afford the settlement offer. It feels tempting but a few things came to mind and I would like some assistance before I pay this.
1 - I don't remember the credit limit being that high. I thought it was £500 (could have been £1000... but this brings me to my second point)
2 - This is quite an old debt. The default date was January 2016. This means it's statute-barred in the coming January. What are the chances of them taking me to court this late? over 5.5 years since the default.
3 - I can see from their site that I can submit a settlement offer. What are the chances of them accepting something around £100? (I've already submitted it - I didn't think of asking until after...whoops. I'll have my answer next week anyway)
I haven't submitted a CCA (from what I have read, this applies to credit cards)
I haven't done a CPR 18 or 31 (not sure which I would do, I've seen both mentioned online - one is information and one is a request if I'm not mistaken?). Should I do this before making payment? If they accept the £100 offer, which I'm doubting they will, I'll pay that right away.
I don't have permission to attach the letter. Let me know if I've missed anything of if you need more info.
