Good Morning,
I do hope someone can assist/point me in the right direction as to where to go with this.
I'm a single dad of a now 4 year old, and unfortunately, Id fell into arrears with my private nursery (to the tune of about £1800 - believe it or not its 3 months fee's) owing to my low paid job and UC fluffing payments up left, right and centre causing this issue.
Id agreed with the nursery to pay extra instalments of £200pcm to which I struggled to keep to given my daughters fees were £600 for 50 hrs a week per month.
Without notice I received a letter from BFL Solutions based in Birmingham - to my home address - but addressed to a different parent of whom I know her daughter who was a friend of my daughters in the same nursery demanding £250.00? Confused I called them and they said to discard it and that there had been a miscommunication from said nursery and a load of parents had been sent other parents outstanding fee's as a result of a messed up mail merge.
Now, whilst I don't deny the debt with the nursery an I am willing to pay the £1800, a fortnight later BFL sent me a correctly addressed letter in my name demanding £2783.00. I contacted them and asked as to why the sum was so high to be told by an advisor that it was for bailiff visitation charges. I'd responded to their initial addressed letter within a day of receipt so surely a bailiff wouldn't have been instructed when their initial letter merely asked me to make contact regarding the £2783.00 to which I did. (Still scratching my head?)
I tried several times since to call to ask for a breakdown of charges and was told that BFL "could charge me whatever they want on top of the owed debt"? Which I am certain isn't true?
I have also requested an income/expenditure form via email, telephone and was told I would receive one in the post - still waiting. I arranged to pay BFL £100.00 per month whilst I seek advice and have kept to my payment plan, but my worry is that they've added on over £900.00 for 1 letter they have sent to me?
Any advice would be appreciated, or would this just be a case of a visit to the CAB and see what they can help with?
(Please note, I am not a prolific bad debtor either)
Thank you in advance
