        Count me in

My daughter and I already save everything except £2, £1 and 50p coins ad have just used the last 8 weeks savings of £64 towards our New years eve party.

We regulary use it when completely skint for pertrol or food but in 2009 we plan to keep it in the jar until November when we are supposed to be going to our friends wedding in Cancun Mexico.

So determined are we to go, that we are also signing up for the

        NSD challenge of 2009!
        and
Live on £4000 for a Year, 2009 Challenge

On MSE although we will be looking at only spending £2500 as there is only 2 of us.

My daughter is only 15 but already better at juggling finances that me, I think it is probably because of growing up in a house hold that has had to watch the pennies.

Good Luck to everyone taking this challenge

        Shooter xx

Well done for that Shooter too, a lesson to be learned there me thinks. I failed with my lad on the finance teaching side and am paying for it now,

Our jar is filling already and will empty it every month and convert it into savings stamps at the supermarkets.

"I failed with my lad on the finance teaching side and am paying for it now"

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, I also have a 21yr old daughter who lives independantly (apparently although I sometimes wonder!!) but still thinks its OK to spend her money on going out and then running to mum to bail her out with rent and utilties bills, If I had taught her better then maybe I wouldn't be in the position I'm in now!

Don't get me wrong I don't blame her for my money problems but had I learnt how to say NO to her when she was younger I wouldn't feel so obligated to help her out finantially now.

She really isn't pleased that I have told her that although I will help her in other ways I will NOT be helping her finantially in 2009 and there after.

I just have to keep reminding myself that at her age I was married with a child, working and looking after her Dad and we NEVER went hungry or without the basics even if we didn't have too many luxuries, we had a mortgage and didn't ask family for help even when we couldn't afford our payments, although they would sometimes help anyway!!

Life isn't always how we want it to be, and I sometimes wish my life had a rosier tint to it, but it doesn't so I live with the cards I have been dealt, and with the help, encouragement and advice from those more knowledgeable on here I will endeavour to keep making the best of my lot and maybe, just maybe, one day I won't have to watch my pennies so closely, I may even have to ask my youngest for advise in the future but will not be embarrassed to do so.

            OH Well essay over!!

I've done my counting and in the £2 coin pot was £22, so I've bagged up £20 and added it to what's left from my last years savings.
As far as the small change is concerned I'm saving in an old 3 ltr Vodka bottle and thats about 3" up so far, I'm not changing it up till its full.

I save my small change except £2, £1, 50p's, In a big scotch bottle my dad got from his local W/M club,
Cant save £2, £1, 50p's as i will dip because we hard up at the moment.
I find that you don't want loads of change in your purse so you wont dip in it.

I've got one of those 900g quality street jars that i've been putting spare silver in [no saving of £1 or £2 coins for me lol]....I've got £10.15 in that at the moment. Would have been a couple of quid more, but i ocassionally need to take the odd bit out if I need change when little un has hot dinners at school lol.....I've also got about £4 in coppers that I put in another money box.
