  • Current Account Suspended.

    Evening,

Yesterday I went to access my RBS current account online and it had disappeared. I logged in and it simply wasn't there! I called RBS telephone banking and they would not discuss the matter and told me to go to a branch. I went to my local branch after their customer service team calling some internal department and seeing the bank manager after two visits over two days, they told me that my account had been suspended and that a letter has been sent out to me, they would not discuss why, they would not tell me the contents of the letter. I have all my direct debits taken from that account, my pay goes into it. I have been left with no access to my finances! Rather distressed I called the financial ombudsman who took a complaint from me. I have no idea what is happening! Or how I will service my financial commitments. Can anyone help me on what I should do to get this resolved. I have read this can be a reaction to fraud/money laundering however I don't see how this applies to me. Either way I wont be able to feed myself, my wife or daughter shortly if this isn't resolved.

I really hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

Have you an overdraft on the account and gone over you limit?

My personal experience with RBS over the years has been dreadful to say the least. They cannot organise themselves to save their lives. One department cannot seem to communicate or co-ordinate effectively with another and so the list can go on and on and on.

The FOS is the last resort as they can take months to resolve a matter. Hopefully you will receive this letter in tomorrow's post. Have you an account with another bank in the meantime or can you open another account? Changing bank accounts is apparently a relatively straight forward process and you can always notify your company to change which bank account to pay your wages into.

There is no reason why they could not have discussed the matter with you in branch. If it was a fraud issue they could have just asked you to produce photo ID to prove who you are.

The account did have an overdraft facility, however the account was about £6k in the positive. I can't get a list of direct debits, and standing orders for the account as I mentioned before it has vanished from my online facility and the branch refuses to deal with my enquiry.

I can't believe this has happened to me.

Have you had any large cheques, direct payments paid in from overseas for large amounts recently?
Are you a UK National(I have to ask that question)?
Do you regularly use the account?
Have you tried to open an account with another bank?

Yes I'm a uk national and have used rbs as my primary bank since 2007. I setup a swift payment to my australian account beginning of the week, which didn't go through, that was ment for a few thousand and I called to tell the bank before I did it. This is my main account I use for daily transactions.

Can i suggest you go into the branch and try to cash a cheque or withdraw cash over the counter with a card ,make sure you take any documents proving you have an account and plenty of id proof if they refuse you can then demand a statement there and then and answers its your account and your money they are playing if there is some fraud suspected you can demand the branch call the police

                    Re: Current Account Suspended.

Tried all of this, and they refused to do anything, they said that my accounts have a hold on them and that I need to wait for this letter that some nameless department of their bank is sending to me. :-( this is such an appauling situation!

As a customer of RBS, you must remember that the bank has the attitude that you exist solely for the entertainment and amusement of its staff.

Indeed, but not particularly helpful for in this situation.

Surely you were given a statement?

I have to say Wales,,I totally agree with you,,surely no bank can refuse to give you your own money AND refuse to tell you why? I'd have refused to leave the branch until someone told me what was going on.
