Hi guys,
I'm hoping for a little advise please.
Ive just received a letter from Nat West Bank Stating that they have 'Recently identified that certain fees and interest have been incorrectly deducted from my account which was previously held by them.' They then go on to say that ' they incorrectly applied unarranged overdraft fees and debit interest to my account' And have said that i am entitled to £76.00 refund with £13.65 interest.
Ok, this is where it gets complicated. I was with Nat West bank from the age of 17 to about the age of 28. Throughout that time I got in a large amount of debt through overdraft. Mainly through their large unarranged overdraft fees as i wasn't managing my finances properly.
A few years ago I applied to have a large lump of my overdraft fees paid back, as well as other bank charges to me (like a lot of people did) but got in just too late, and I believe it was decided that banks didn't have to 'payout' anymore overdraft fees.
I am now paying Natwest their overdraft fees in full (As well as my overdraft) through a Debt Management Program via the CCCS. As i am in financial hardship.
Now, when i looked into getting my overdraft fees back for the last six years it worked out that Natwest had charged me over £2500 in overdraft fees. My balance of the account was just over £3000 o/d. (Which is the amount I am currently paying off via the CCCS)
Surely If they are admitting they have charged me wrong, it should be more than £76?
How would i find out, and what would i need to ask them to send me through so i can check?
Apparently I have 28days to receive my refund.
I hope i've not confused too many people with my babble. If something doesn't make sense please let me know
Kind Regards
FP
