Basic Bank Accounts

So, Nasty are trying to stick the wife for £38 of charges due to their own "creative accounting practices".
Surprisingly enough she is far from amused.

She has tried to have them with draw it, but they wont.
So time to jump ship and let the charges have the account.

Now all she has paid to her is Tax credit and Child benefit.

Which is the best/easiest/quickest basic bank account she can apply for ??

Must be able to accept the odd DD and hopefully have some form of debit card, but other than that nowt else.

The're all much the same, lure you in through incentives and after a short period they start putting charges on the account. All of these do basic bank accounts and all allow you to make withdrawals at the P.O counter.

* Lloyds TSB
* Nationwide Building Society

* The Royal Bank of Scotland
* Ulster Bank
* Yorkshire Bank
On a cautionary note, they all have their negatives, usually an unlawful charge for going into the red.

Alliance & leicester do a simple card account. Ive not got 1 but have seen other people who just have benefits paid into their accounts with 1..... might be worth looking at...

We've got the Nationwide Flex Account for our household stuff, it does direct debits, standing orders, online banking, BACS transfers and we have a cash card.

Works for us !

I've got a LTSB "savings" account. had it ages. can't do direct debits etc but there is a cashpoint card for withdrawals. Ihave my child benefit and stuff paidinto it. never had any problems.

Lloyds was a piece of cake to open - i just went in with passport, leccy bill and driving licence and voila, done. Have a visa debit card - can only withdraw cash at lloyds machines tho.

Actually thinking now while writing this, I have never had a statement from them ? (must have been 3 months) and I definately didnt sign up for internet banking...hmmmmmm

maybe avoid them then lol will go in tmw find out.

Well, we tried talking face to face with Nasty, and true to form they point blank refused to remove the charges.
No matter, I made it very clear to them that they will NOT be repaid until the Test Case judgement and I will be telling any DCA monkeys the same thing. They will start stacking up nicely now and I fully expect the idiots to start demanding repayment in a few months.

So abandoned nasty for HSBC, out of all on offer, it made most sense as it's nextdoor to nasty, so really convenient for us.

Wife's happier, even though she now needs to reset up everything she had on that account.

So who wants to guess how many charges we'll get on this account now.
Starts out at -£36

£170 when it goes to DCA is my uneducated guess.
