  • Just been given a bit of slightly bad news by the OH.

So, we have had a mortgage with Halifax. Five years ago, we decided to pay an extra Tenner a month towards the mortgage payment. Today, OH tells me that she has found out these overpayments are not being counted towards the mortgage!! How can this possibly be?

    Anyone??

They do seem to allow overpayments but check your mortgage agreement. You're on a repayment mortgage I presume? You'll probably want to get a up to date mortgage statement too, and basically, ask Halifax what's happening to the extra £10 you've been paying - also check the rate hasn't changed over the years which has eaten up the overpayment amounts.

      Thanks, Amethyst.

We are on a tracker. Maybe this ten Quid is just getting lost therein?

      Will write to them tomorrow.

Possibly. What made OH notice it wasn't being paid to the mortgage ? It likely will be best to speak with them first, then if there is an issue you'll have a starting point to work from.

How do you pay the extra £10 ? Do they take the main payment by DD then you pay £10 on top separately ( standing order ) - or did you ask them to increase by £10 and they've added it to the DD (or not as the case may be )

I think we just voluntarily upped the DD payment. Will ask OH tomorrow.

          Thank you.
